I have a gurgling sound coming from my shower drain and and from the bathroom sink after I run some water.
It sounds like air coming up and something that would happen when the air vent to the gray tank is stopped up, but I have used a garden hose and run water down through the vent pipe that's on top of the RV and watched it come out of the drain. I get the same sound even with the gray water tank drain open.
Does anyone have any idea about what's causing this and how to fix it? It's not big deal, but it tells me that something is wrong.
It sounds like a simple problem. Water is going into the gray tank and the air has to come out somewhere. If there is no way for air to get out of the tank, then the pressure causes the air to gurgle up through the tub and sink drain. The only problem is that there seems to be a working vent to the gray water tank.

There also should be a vacuum breaker under the bathroom sink. Maybe it is not working right?

Bill, yes I found one there. I will see about replacing it, but I'm going to wait until after Thanksgiving before I tear into the plumbing.
Thanks for your help Bill.

Look under your kitchen and bathroom sinks and see if there is a vent on the drain pipe stack. It's just like a residential system that lets air in but not out. If its not opening it will cause this. It acts as a check valve www.lowes.com/ProductDisplay

normally the vaccum break on the plumbing can be unscrewed from the top of the stack.......if you take it off and spray it with some silicone it will become unstuck.....sometimes the rubber diaphragm will stick to the pvc when it dries out..........simple fix

What you pictured from Lowes is exactly what it looks like for and $6 I think I will just replace it when I unscrew it rather than trying to clean and spray silicon on it.

My Thanksgiving company left and I unscrewed the vacuum vent cap (or whatever you call it). I ran the water and there was no gurgling sound when I turned the water off like there was before, so off to the hardware store I went to get a replacement.
I got one for $2.99, screwed it in and now there is no gurgling sound. Everything is quite as a mouse.
Thanks everyone for the help. I don't think I would have figured this one out for myself.
I got this one at a hardware store in a little town of less than 8,000 people. Since the device was that easy to find, I decided not to bother with keeping a spare. I probably wouldn't be able to find it when I needed it anyway.

Of course you would find it - right after you had purchased another one when your hours of hunting for that 'perfect spot' you put it in drove to to a hardware store!

Someone told me to put things where you would first look for them. I am not good at doing that.
