I am starting this topic since I don't see anything current on this subject about changing your service address.
I am FT with no other Directv service address other than the RV. I changed my service address 2 years ago from my original address with no problems, NJ to FL. Then after 5 months I tried again and went around and around with DTV and got no where. OK, that was over a year ago so I just tried again and was told that Winegard does anything associated with RVs for DTV. I called them and left a message.
My issue is just to understand why Directv has such a problem changing a service address. It seems if I move to a S&B address they have no problem, an install gets ordered and they then change the address. We have friends here in the RV park we are in that change their service address every 6 months between their place in PA and here in TX. They have a S&B in PA and an RV here in TX. They take the receivers with them from place to place.
I just don't understand Directv policy. Anyway, I have a call into Winegard and we will see where that goes. I seem to remember that is what I did a year ago in frustration and got no where, just can't remember why though.
I have heard the stuff about regulations and other such seemingly nonsensical stuff. I just want to know what is the darn issue!?

Dish has a RV plan and we have never had problems with them, even if we change it daily while traveling.

We use Dish too. We call every time we get to a new resort. Never a problem if we choose technical support from the automated menu. Much easier and reliable than the customer support people.

I have DirectTV and have never had a problem changing my service address. I call DirectTV's customer service line and usually, within a few minutes, my service address will be changed. I have had DirectTV since March and have changed my service address every week or 2. Sometimes I get a rather dense customer service representative and have to ask for technical support, but I do not have make any contact with Winegard.

You can go either way winguard or direct tv..
Try and call directv and tell them you want it for a rv only.. Good luck with that.
much , much easier with wineguard..
Much easier if you have a house address to deal with directv.. if you don't call wineguard. Pretty sure sdman said he is rv only?
I don't know.. these guys change policies like the wind too.. directv is lost in space on this stuff.. Rving..Sometimes you get a good rep, sometimes you don't.. somesay, just hang up and start over..
Lots of complaints on this on the net.. search it out..

You don't mention it but, are you using the DNS (Distant Network Service) that is used by mobile customers (RVers eg.)?

I am not sure exactly what you are trying to accomplish by changing your address with DirecTV. I am guessing that your desire is to receive ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, CW and PBS stations. As full time RVers, we receive an east coast feed for those stations from DirecTV, regardless of our physical location.
Per biggaRView's above comment, if you were unaware--for full time RVers only--you can sign-up for the Distant Network Services (DNS) program at DirecTV that includes feeds for the above stations from the east or west coast. There is a monthly charge for DNS and you have to provide proof that you full time, but it was worth it to us. Further information about DNS can be found at: http://www.directv.com/learn/pdf/DNS_Vehicles_Aff.pdf
If you brought your DirecTV unit from your S&B, that might cause an issue/complication – but not sure.
We purchased our DirecTV equipment through Wineguard, specifically for our RV. The only way we could receive an ABC, CBS, etc. feed (when not in close proximity to our billing address) was to complete the DNS paperwork. Even if there is a way to accomplish this by calling every time we moved, I prefer the “simplicity” of just completing the DNS paperwork (i.e., compared to the time, effort and frustration of regularly changing my address). YMMV.

You can bring your former home equipment to the RV and then establish a new account with DNS.It is not necessary to obtain new equipment. Any receiver can be re-authorized for DNS.
There are some “it depends” with this procedure and I’m trying to be general. But you can create a new mobile account using the same physical receivers / DVRs as long as the S & B account (non-mobile) has been canceled - or to be more specific - the receivers in use in the RV are no longer authorized for a S & B account. But, as Lynn said, you do have to fill out the paperwork which is required by the FCC to get DNS. Once that is completed and the receivers are authorized for DNS moving becomes simple as there is nothing to change. The network feeds are just always available throughout the lower 48 states.
On Edit from the Direct TV Website:
“To order DIRECTV for your mobile home, please contact an RV equipment dealer. If you already have the required equipment, please contact us at 1-800-531-5000 for more information about programming.”
