Seen a RVer come in the park, and set up a mobile panel wire fence around pretty much his whole campsite.. then lets his 3 smaller/med sized dogs run around in there..
I thought was a great idea.. as we have our dog on a small steel cable when we sit outside..But dog gets wrapped around stuff.. and is still exposed to loose dogs, if any.
Question is .. is this kind of set up normal and acceptable in most RV parks? I see many just st up smaller "pen" fencing.. This guys included the patio area, and the entire right side of the property available to him.. I like it. And will go buy the fencing today, but want to be able to use after here too..
Thanks.

Every campground have their own rules concerning portable fences.
You will have to check with the park.
No matter what, please do not leave the dog outside alone.
Too many bad things can happen, including disturbing the neighbors with barking.

Also seen this type of fencing for toddlers to keep them inside the campsite area.
Tend to see small fencing pens (6' X 6') for dogs & kids but have seen the entire campsite type fencing many times in several different RV Resorts.
Seems to work great for the dogs or kids.

As noted, each park has it's own rules. Many will allow the small, "playpen" sized set ups, but most I've seen would not allow fencing that much of the lot area -- if there is grass it would make it very difficult to maintain.

Many do not allow it. So as long as you are willing to not use it in that situation I think it works fairly well. But do not leave the dog alone, as recommended above.

Where do you connect the leash?.........Every park I go to has a leash Rule and most areas have leash laws.......so where do you connect the leash.
your dog in a pen is not under physical control........please dont take offense but my mind has 4 or 5 simple scenario's that make pens a bad idea.
I am owned by a pet and know it does not take but a split second for a bad thing to happen......Im a firm believer in 6' leashes.....not the neat little reel type that allow your dog to travel 12' away from you....(.like someone really has control of an animal that has a 12' circumference to run in during a situation) .....the problem with rules and laws is everyone has a want to bend them or break them to there way of thinking..
we all know that animals get loose in parks.......a loose medium or large dog will clear that pen long before you can react........once inside the pen there will be 2 animals not under control and a good possibility it wont be pretty..

The folks I've seen.. Using these " pens" are not using leashes inside them.
I think I'm ok with them.
Then you also create another obstacle to get to the car..lol
I think , and I am not sure about this.. That a caged dog in the pen, may be ok and meet leash law guidelines?.. so therefore, it may also meet rv park requirements?
I mean you don't need a leash in your fenced in back yard, right?
I'm not sure I see a difference if a larger dog is on the attack.. pen'ed or your dog on a leash.. both will be a problem.

I agree with Mike. I've seen the pens and they really don't seem to be designed to prevent animals from jumping out or in.

The pen fencing I seen is about 4ft tall.. Quality stuff too.
I will go talk to the owners tomorrow. I still like the idea. As long as my dog can't get out. I will never catch it. lol

I like the idea of a fenced in area. I like it better than having my dog on a leash while sitting outside. I think the fencing would be more of a deterrent to an attack by another dog. Yes another dog could jump in, but it would be more work than if there was no fence and our dog was on a leash. We don't leave our dog outside alone. I've seen many pens where dogs were left outside alone. We haven't had any problems with unfriendly dogs yet.

I have only seen them used once with show dogs. The owner's of the dogs got angry if someone walked by their lot because the dogs would bark and they couldn't control them and they had been told they could use the pen BUT they had to be able to control the barking which they couldn't not even when they were present which was the other requirement.
I would think higher-end parks wouldn't appreciate the fencing and many lower end would not have the space for one. In Pima County when we lived there, dogs had to be on a lease or behind dog-proof fencing even on your own property out in the county. Many places require leashes not be more than 6 ft long.
Do these use stakes to hold them down?
When we were at the Corp of Engineers park this summer, dogs were required to be on a lease while outside, not tied. We walk our dogs and they enjoy just laying in one place watching activities or sleeping. Large dogs are the best!

bottom line....if the law in the area your in has a leash law and you are off your property and forbid something happens......you are at fault
when outside in areas that have leash laws......you must have Full Physical control of the animal......you do not have this in a public place when your dog is in an open pen.......
your neighbors....the kids in the park....all come before your comfort and your pet.
Rules and laws are in black & white.......opinions were used to write them......but once written they are the baseline for everyone and opinions dont count
I have a service dog......while out and about I have been bitten trying to save my best friend.......a month ago I was attacked by a boxer while walking in a park...the dog was on a radio controlled leash, the owner was apologetic because said she pushed the button but it did not work......I left in an ambulance.... not pretty!!!!
If your not home....your animal should be on a leash period its no longer your property and its a strange environment to you and your animal ....you cannot think for the animal or for other predators around your animal......things happen and always will

Coming from the 'dog show world' we have purchased what is called an "X" pen....the "X" stands for Exercise - but what it really means is the place your dog is supposed to do it's 'business'
We carry an x pen and use it when we stay at a place for any length of time - our dogs are put there in the morning when we first wake up.....soon after, they are removed and either leashed for a walk - or they are returned to our RV
As has been mentioned some places do not allow their usage and as always the rules of the park should be followed...no matter how unreasonable they are.... lol

Most people walk their dogs, take their dogs to the dog walk or run or so we have seen. One of the good things about that is you don't end up with an area on a lot that smells of urine or worse if "business" isn't disposed of quickly. In some soils, this is just not good at all. I would think this would influence a decision by park management. And, if allowed, some people always try to stretch the rules which end up hurting everyone and then no dogs are allowed.
Lucky Mike: So sorry to hear that you were bitten. I agree with everything you have said. Where we live, we still walk and take every possible precaution but still, we are constantly aware that something could happen. I walk my dogs on traffic leads (2') with prong collars so I can control them when other dogs approach and when the pits tried to go after their necks, biting into that did give them pause which I desperately needed at that point.
Coyotes used to eat frequently from the collar end of those 20' leashes in AZ. The owners were so angry that nothing was being done about the coyotes. Yeah, I know. Coyotes are everywhere as are aggressive dogs and other dangers. Sadly, theft and poisoning are other issues that happen more than one would think. We have some seriously crazy people on the loose now. When you move around, you learn it is big world with no two places alike.

I was planning just to sit out there with my dog. I wouldn't leave it there by itself. We walk our dog all over the parks and the dog park.. just like everyone.
I do not consider my RV site public property, after I rented it... sorry. Not sure what the rules/laws are .. but I best find out..

I realize what you are saying, but have you stayed in many rv parks? I'm only asking because even if you rent a certain site, that doesn't keep everyone and his cat, dog, kids, bicycle off of your lot. Rules? Let me tell you about the rules, they generally are very loose and just like in many other venues in life, they don't apply to everyone equally and if I am breaking them and in general a bully that management is sort of afraid of and you're just the average guy, they are going to encourage you to just let it go. Parks with longer term residents are very much like your standard S/B neighborhoods and that is what I hope to escape by the way I plan to live the lifestyle. Now, if you can tie in with a group, not my thing, and settle in a park, you know birds of feather sort, this won't be as evident and there would be more give and take. If it requires me to "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" and evil is all around, lifestyle doesn't fit me.
I'm guessing that you already know that people that ask that rules be enforced are considered troublemakers for the most part despite where and how they live.
I mean this in the kindest way because we have spent a lot of time in RV parks in different areas. I would never want to live long term in an RV park. Think boondocking so you can drive away for some peace, quiet and privacy.
Most RV parks have rules on pets, you can ask for exceptions but it is their property and if they make exceptions and someone complains, that is usually the end of it.
The RV lifestyle is much more like S/B living than a lot of people think.

And I really.. really don't care what anyone does around me.. That's their business.. Just like my business in my own.
Not really camped like this.. we had always had a campground for the summer, and would be the guys most hate.. you know.. 1/2 keg.. party to 4am.. fireworks at 2 am..lol.. the crowd didn't care about much, sorry to say..
Just looked up the laws.. pretty complicated. Depends if there are mobile homes in the park, How many.. how many rv slots, where the pads are located on the grounds.. and how long you are a tenant for.. Then there will be local laws.. too hard ..
I just go with the flow..
I still like the x pen ...( Got the name now, Thanks ! ) But will wait a bit.. not really sitting around outside much.. Driving alot.. trying to steal a property on the cheap..cheap..We'll get there. Put it on my long list..

I hope you find something that works. If you are renting property, would be somewhat different than an RV park since the RV park would fall under the state/local/county/city law and also have a set of rules, often with dogs they claim that it is an "insurance issue". Also, the more desperate they are for money, like off-season, they can be more flexible and if they have gotten to know you, that can be a help or a hindrance.

Ugh.... I'm just going to build a cage off my rv so my dogs can go in aand out on their own . My wife and I are traveling and want to go to a few places we can't take the dogs .they are by them selves a lot at home , so looks like a locked cage should be legal anywhere..my dog has addisons and pees quite frequently so I can't keep her inside , even if we're only gone a few hours , she will need to pee ... People are selfish and stupid , 2 main reasons our country is gone to hell . Dogs are not .... people are why we can't do things like travel with our pets , not pets ... Dogs bark it's what they do , just like people like to run their mouths and bitch! I prefer dogs .....
