I haven't checked in with you all in awhile - so now seems good!
We left PA a week ago and after a LONG day of driving - landed here in Avon, NC. We've been having a great time, relaxing and just finding our way in our new full-time life.
Things changed from calm, cool and collected to crazy windy! Gusts are at about 40 mph and the 5er is starting to rock! This is our first time with winds like this and I don't mind telling you - it's making me nervous. Bill went outside and says it seems worse inside than from outside. Guess that's good.
I've read where some people bring their slides in and I am thinking about it. Am I over-reacting? The highest gusts are supposed to be about 50 mph.

It's awesome windy here in Raleigh as well! Not only are we also rocking, but being directly under a pecan tree, they're raining down like hail (it'll be a nice harvest on the roof though!)
I know you're supposed to bring the awnings in, but I never heard about the slides. Am watching for answers as well. It is pretty scary!

We have done sustained winds up to 70 mph in NC (around 2000 due to hurricane in 24 ft TT) and in AL (another hurricane in a 30 ft 5th). It was scary and went on for a very long time. The only real threat I can think of would be falling trees or something flying through the air. I would try to avoid going outside if at all possible.

I wouldn't worry about the slides, Kelly. I've never seen anyone bring them in during a big windstorm. Paul and Nina from Wheeling It were just in 90 mile an hour gusts out at Cape Blanco, OR and did fine. Awnings are another story. Slide toppers make a lot of noise in the wind; some people put beach balls under them to quiet them. We have a product we bought online For our toppers called an Awning Wedge. Works ok, but it is awkward to put up.

Thanks guys! We decided to bring in our door side slide mostly b/c of the slide toppers. Don't want to wake to any damage. Might bring in the others when we go to bed. I figure if it helps me sleep better - it's all good - right?

Kelly it's your slide toppers you have to keep an eye on (if you have them). They can tear if they flap too much. Otherwise you should be fine. I think I'll leave the rocking part alone.

When you looked at my blog, remember the pic of me cutting the sheathing for the winter skirting? If you look close, you can see the Awning Airwedge in it. That did stop the flapping on that slide, just for future reference. As you can see in that photo, we are sort of committed to keeping the slides out all winter. :)

We withstood 80 mph winds and gusts higher in the Poconos during hurricane Sandy. The rig was rocking and the toppers were flapping away. We hooked up the truck to the trailer for added security.
Right now we have 40 to 50 mph gusts in the Catskills....no Issues other than toppers are noisey.
We have not had to put slides in but if it makes you more comfortable and gives you POM then it's the right thing to do.

We decided to put the slides in - not so much for the slides themselves but for the toppers. It was totally for peace of mind, as I have read they are fine even at higher winds.

The toppers will react differently depending on the direction you are parked with the wind also.

Very windy here also in Marion, N.C. Nice to have a heavy unit now, a little rocking but doing allright.

Hang on! The noise is louder than anything - we have gotten used to it, I listen all night & Ruski sleeps lol. We can't bring the slides in because of the Zoo, lol.

I really like the idea for the Awning Airwedge, especially we are planted at our work camp job for a long time, it seems it would be a great option. (We are at WIND Point Park, lol).

It seems to be working well, but we aren't completely happy with its construction. It seems somewhat thin. But it sure is a great concept!
On my comment about Wheeling It...I stand corrected. They DID bring their slides in. As you said, Kelly...better safe than sorry!
