Buy an HDT and mount your existing boxes behind the cab. With that weight you are going to need an HDT anyway.

Well, I didn't start out with as many tools as you did, but I downsized on the tools as well. I went out and bought a Craftsman standard/metric tool set with both end wrenches and sockets. Then, from my old tools, I took out the larger sizes that didn't come int he new set. I also kept my one set of 1/2 drive sockets, screwdrivers, a couple of Crescent wrenches, a couple of pipe wrenches, and a few other individual tools like high leverage linesman pliers, "metal cutting scissors" (not tin snips), and such. All the loose tools are in one small plastic tool box with a lift out tray that has a section under the top with the handle.
So far, I've not had the need for anything that I didn't have. However, I'm not a mechanic, so there is no real desire to work on too many things. Besides what I've listed above, there are two other small "household type" tool sets that are kept in the inside of the coach so we don't have to go out into the elements to get a simple tool for an inside job.

That's probably one of the biggest struggles for all us guys who love tools out there...Number one, if the tool does not apply the your new RV in any way it can't come....Number two if the tool can not be used in any way to persue your hobby while on the road, it can't come...Beyond that I use a series of small and mid sized tool boxes.....caulking, paints, adhesives and hardware get stored in plastic bins...good luck.

I feel your pain. I am no longer "manly". Selling my big red tool box was the second worse day of my life. The worst day was selling my Grand Banks trawler. Heartbreak..... but the sacrifice to RV is worth it all. No regrets.

My whole cargo area in my fifth wheel is a tool box.
I bought the rolling tray for the front and have stackable trays .. same ones walmart uses for the produce , for the bigger stuff and assory stuff.. stacks about 6ft x 18" x 36" or so.... and just bought a 24 x 20 6 draw box at lowes...that fits nicely next to the rolling tray for easy access.. Left my big rolling box, and a rolling cabinet is at my fathers, and the rest of the shop, including the lifts got sold or sent to auction..
If you are buying a high mile truck, and/or trailer/rv .. you will need the tools.. as my stuff is pretty new.. I should not need as much. I've sorted it 3 times, and I think I still have too much.. Need to go through it one more time. as I will never use, 1/3 of it.
2 months, and I've used my cordless drill, and a couple sockets, and a test light..lol

I am hoping to have a hauler bed for the truck so hopefully that would help.
Spent today trying to see how much I can get just in May upper box.
Want to get my lower box to my son. He will also get the hand tools I don't take with me.
What real sucks is having to have both metric and standard, with sockets I have 1/4,3/8, 1/2 drive and even a few larger, have to weed thru all the pliers and screw drivers. Never realized how much of this stuff I had until now, even hammers ,drills, saws, and misc. OMG, I just keep finding more, and real hate to let it go. Holy cow this is pain full.
Shhhh . Don't tell the wife, we have had so tears as she starts the big purg and I tell her it's just stuff get rid of it, of course it's different for me, ha,ha. I am dead if she reads that

I have one of those 'tool kits' from Walmart - I don't know how to use any of THEM...so no point in me carrying a bunch of stuff

Lee took the drop drawers of our big craftsman tool box and had a machine shop rig them so the could lock and open from the side rather than the top. They are facing out on one side of the storage area and he's really happy with the setup.

My hubby also had a huge collection of tools; most of which he says he needs for his work. All his tools take up 99% of the storage space in the cargo area of the 5th wheel and all the compartments of the truck's hauler body. Plus some of the closet space and the storage area under the bed.

Well I carry a kit all housed in a plastic case that has 1/4, 3/8, 1/2" drive sockets and ratchets along with some wrenches, screwdrivers, and pliers. It was a Mastercraft Set from Canadian Tire. I carry it in the motorhome basement for emergency if needed. I sure don't know what I would do when I would have to down-size and "weed-out". I have just about every Snap-On Tools and Mac Tools and everything in between as well as a lot of specialty and diagnostic tools. That's what I do......Repair anything and everything. I had recently rebuilt the Allison MD3060 tranny in the coach. If I ever would need to rebuild the 8.3 Cummins...........I would do that too. It's just second nature to me. I'm maybe going to be lost if I can't still do that. However I guess It comes a time when your clock has limited time left on it and just have to say "I can't do that anymore".
