Has anyone stayed at Sportsman's Campground and Cabins in the San Juans north of Pagosa Springs? How did you like it? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks much!

We stayed there for two weeks in late August/early September in 2009. If they still have the same owners and management, it will be a good place for you. When we had stayed there that time, we were told to book early for the next year if we wanted to return. We did, but later had to cancel as financial issues kept us from going on vacation the next year.
We really enjoyed that trip. In fact, that was our first ever experience with all the hook-ups and it spoiled my wife, Jo. It also served as an excellent place to be away from towns and still allow us to do day trips. Our day trips included a day at Mesa Verde over by Cortez and a day of riding the steam trains from Durango to Silverton and back. We also did some hiking to Piedra Falls and along the Piedra River south of the campgrounds. (Take water if you hike that area.)
Terry,
Thanks so much for your reply! I'm so sorry for not getting back to you. I got side tracked with work and didn't even check for replies to my question. I finally got back to the forum and there you were!
We are going to be visiting Sportsman's next year and are glad to hear you had fun. We ran across them by chance on the net and "John Wayne" caught my attention! Your response and blog was very helpful and made my wife and I even more excited! I'll report back after our trip. Thank you again.
