Visitors at Gros Ventre CG in Grand Teton National Park, crowding a cow moose along with a bull moose contributed to the injury and euthanizing of the cow moose.
Bad things happen when people start crowding wildlife to take pictures and look at them.

Park rangers were forced to euthanize the cow moose due to the severity of her leg injury. Her calf was not injured during the commotion. While moose calves orphaned at this age can survive on their own, their probability of survival is somewhat reduced.
Although the behavior of a single bull moose during its mating season was a contributing factor in the ill-fated death of the female moose this morning, the concentration of people approaching and crowding around these animals has caused them to become overly agitated and consequently a safety concern.

I agree with Genecop and my thoughts on what should be done to the people responsible are inappropriate for the forum. I get so tired of stupid people!

A few years ago we visited Yellowstone, and the Village Idiots' Convention must have been happening there at the same time. When we reported one situation to a ranger, we were told "Welcome to Yellowstone in the summer!" I suggested that maybe some fine print ought to be added to the entry information that gives the park permission to use the name and picture of any visitor on signs. Two signs would be created, one bordered in red and one bordered in black. If a visitor was injured doing something stupid a sign would be erected near the location showing the name, picture, and a description of the incident. If the visitor was injured a red-bordered sign would be used. If the visitor was killed the black-bordered sign would be used. The ranger liked the idea and suggested I send it up the chain. I never did, but often thought about doing so.

I was camped in Gros Ventre when this took place. I don't think those who were observing and photographing the moose caused the cow to run as much as a nearby Diesel RV which started the engine. It is amazing that a large moose can quickly run through a wooded area, but cannot deal with man made objects like tables and metal fire rings.
