Wendy, it sounds like a fun way to see the country. Except the article is from 1999 and looks like the company shut down in 2009. Probably due go the economy. I've always thought cruising our rivers would be fun & educational but I couldn't find anyone doing this now. Why not, they load rail cars in Mexico with RVs?
Well, we decided if the house wasn't going to sell right away to branch out and see things in KS. So, we pulled a book off the shelf and started looking for things but as it turns out, even though we didn't buy it that long ago, it was published in 2001. So, the two things we were considering exist no longer. I have ordered the new edition published in 2010 but it will still require that I follow up online to make sure whatever still exists. I know years ago, doesn't seem that long, in the Good Sam magazine they advertised those trips, the one in Mexico and one on the Mississippi River but no more. Sadly, a sort of storyland park with animals we went on field trips when I was child just closed about a month ago and I was feeling so close to getting one more visit. Makes you wish you didn't have to wait even one more day!
Hahaha.......That would of been cool. Maybe could put the awning out at half-mast and sit out in the lawn chair.

OOh I did not pay attention to the date on the article. So Sad I think it would have been fun.
Oh well, I am sure that the other 300 things on my bucket list will keep us busy for quite awhile.

Another bucket list item that dropped from my list... there was a company that rented large pontoon boats for RVs at several of the large lakes in Nevada & California. You would drive your RV onto the pontoon boat, tie it down and then cruise around the lake just like in a houseboat. The company went out of business about 20 years ago and to this day I still watch for some of these pontoon boats to come up for sale on Craigslist. I wonder what happened to them...maybe they were turned into houseboats.
How about loading your RV up on a Barge and taking a cruise with it!
Well there is a company that does it. Right here in the US. So it is now on my bucket list.

They don't put RVs on rail cars in Mexico anymore, either - http://www.rvtravel.com/blog/mexico/2007/11/rv-rail-tours-through-copper-canyon.html.
