The end of November we will be heading to Harris Beach, OR (Brookings) for a work camping job. Any advice on the best road to take hauling a 36' 5th wheel. We will be heading out from the Eugene area. Looking at the maps, we are thinking that HWY 195 from Grants Pass over to Crescent City, then back up 101 may be the best. All the other routes look pretty narrow and windy.
Thanks, Ann

US199 is not that good either, it has some narrow spots. But it is doable with a big rig. It has been a long time since we have taken that route ourselves, not because we are avoiding it, but because we head to US101 further north. Both OR20 from Eugene to Florence or OR38 to Reedsport are good roads we have taken with our 40' motorhome many times. The best way to OR20 is via the Beltline.

Thanks Bill, we will be in Junction City, so it would be easy to get to OR 126 ( I'm guessing that was what you meant). Not real crazy about going DOWN 101, would rather go up it. Don't like the being on the outside. The roads look better in the Atlas than the Benchmark.

Yes, I meant OR 126, but OR 20 is also a good road but a bit far north. Do not take OR 36 from Junction City with a big rig. It is a nice road for touring with a smaller vehicle. US101 is not that scary, but the first time I went down it was in the 60s. If you want scary, try CA-1 from Leggett to Fort Bragg, you will love US101 after that experience. We drove CA-1 that route once with our 35'.

Thanks Bill. It's been a long time since we have been on 101, I think our last trip was from Clearlake to Port Angeles about 5 years ago in a 20' Sprinter. Fort Bragg area and HWY 1, right after our son came home from the first gulf war. We were tent camping on that trip.
