In late August we'll be leaving Boise ID headed to the Lake Tahoe area. I've been looking at Hwy 95 going through OR and NV before we get to I-80 in NV, RVParksreview.com, etc. Seems to be a very unpopulated portion of the country without many places to visit or places to stay. Has anyone traveled this route? Just wondering if there are any recommendations on places to stay, anything to see, etc. I'm beginning to think it might just be a long day of driving but would love suggestions on anything to break up the drive.
Also, has anyone stayed on the BLM land in the area? Trying to determine how big rig friendly it might be getting onto BLM land for an overnight stop, can't find a lot of info on the BLM website on that topic.

We have done 95 from Fallen Nevada all the way to Yuma Az. There is some places just outside Hawthorne NV by the lake to boondock. We also stayed in Bullhead City across from Laughlin, of course you would be by Death Valley and we really enjoyed that. Lake Havasu was also great but if I remember correctly you have done that area. We took 95 all the way to Yuma.
These folks have done 95 a few times and really love it and have written a few articles on it. Just do a search on their blog. www.wheelingit.us/
Hope this helps.

Looked at the Wheelinit blog, lots of good ideas, unfortunately none of them are north of I-80 as we come out of Idaho. Guess we'll keep researching...

Yes very unpopulated... We used to just pull off on a side road and spend the night in the 70's but now I'm not sure I would do that.
There is a large Gas Station Truck Stop at 95 and 290 in Paradise Hill area. Plenty of room to park.
Another couple of parking areas at 95 & 293 (Kings River Road)
At the border of Nevada is Mcdermitt (Stateline RD.) plenty of parking there.... This was one of my Dad's favorite stops when headed to Oregon or Jackpot, NV further east on 93 when we were headed for Twin Falls area.
