Mitch may have a long term contract position (1 yr) in which he would travel between Angola, LA and Cottonport, LA. From Google maps, it appears no more than about a 20 mile distance as the bird flies, but it appears that it is actually about 2 hrs or about 95 miles between the points because there is only ONE place to cross the Mississippi River (a bit north of False River. The route would be LA-1 to LA-10 to I-61 to LA-66.
Since he'd need to be at either location, it makes the most sense to find a CG near the river crossing which is almost the halfway point.
We're wondering if this is an opportunity that's worth taking. There don't seem to be a lot of places to stay in that region, and he doesn't want to have to commute 2+ hours from a cg farther away.
So anyone familiar with this territory, and if so, what is your opinion?
Thanks

Chip (sushidog) appears to be the resident Cajun, perhaps he will be able to help you.

Well that's a little north and west of where I live, but I have been to the Angola Prison rodeo a few times, so I have traveled through the area. There's a couple of campgrounds near St. Francisville and one at False River, (right on the lake) near New Roads, which is a little bigger town. It's all a pretty rural area. My mom's side of the family came from there. I haven't stayed at any RV parks near there, so I can't recommend them, but there are some pretty plantation homes near St. Francisville that would be interesting to visit. I sure wouldn't want to stay near the Angola State Prison, though I guess you've got to go where the work is. If Mitch works for NRG or the Army Corps of Engineers they recommend the park near the Morganza spillway, called the Maxey Care RV park. It's a little closer to Cottonport than Angola (with a the Mississippi River in between), which would suit me just fine. I hope your AC works well and you have lots of bug spray, but the fishing and crabbing is great! Too bad crawfish season just ended, cause that area is ideal for bud bugs too. The cajun culture is quite unique and to be enjoyed too.
I hope you pass a good time, cher. I think you'll love it like a pig loves corn.
