I'd be interested in hearing the pros and cons of having a stackable washer/dryer vs a side by side? I like the side by side idea and not having a stackable taking up valuable closet space. I have seen a few floor plans that place the stackable in the kitchen area which seems like a good idea. I'd appreciate your thoughts and comments!

We have a stackable set in a closet off of the living area. The manufacturer pre plumbed for the W/D so we took advantage of it and had the stackable installed by the factory.
I wouldn't go any other way. The Apartment sized Maytag stackable works as good or better than the Neptune set in our home.
We have plenty of closet space so the loss of this one didn't hurt.

I think in the DRV lexington, I don't have yet, is side by side in a slide..good or bad, I don't know. seems to me you can never utilize the all the space in these things, because of weight limitations.. So may as well spread it out, I guess.

All is a compromise in an rv. If you put them side by side they take up more space. But then it allows for storage overhead. We have the stackable units. We like this. Trade off for side by side is smaller bath area. If you look at DRV on their web site and check out models with this and ones without you will see the difference is bathroom. With a 43' it not as big an issue as say a 38'. You have to decide if it is worth it.

We have a Mobile Suites with a closet for the side by side washer & dryer in the hallway that leads to the bedroom. I like the side by side rather than stackable, since I'm short! It's easy for me to get clothes in/out of my washer & dryer. I also use the top of the washer & dryer for storage, as well as shelves above the w/d.

DW is 5'1. She has no problem with stackable.

Our Mobile Suites has a closet in the bedroom slide that allows for the side by side washer and dryer. The units in this picture are by Whirlpool. We went with a dryer that did not match the washer (window in the door) because the one that matched required 240V, while the one we have is 120V. You can see a small cabinet above for laundry supplies and a hanging area for short items.
This next picture shows the laundry closet door closed on the left. Since Jo put towel rods on the inside of our side bathroom door, she can hang long items on hangers and then temporarily hang those on the towel rods since those are "back to back" with the laundry closet..

Any idea if you can put a stackable set in the closet for side by side set? I was wondering if that could be a good location for the litter box next to the stackable?
Thanks

Ran n Jo,
I don't think it would be likely to be able to put a stackable in that space. It just isn't tall enough. What you might consider is a combination washer/dryer. However, with those, I understand that one washes and then waits for that load to dry before being able to wash another load. You would want to research the combo units as some are vented and some aren't, and I heard or read somewhere that it is important that a ventless combo be absolutely level. Now, in honesty, I heard that from one source, so I'd research that aspect as well.

Thanks, Terry. That's what I thought regarding the height on that closet. I've looked at the combo washer/dryer and am not sold on those based on reviews I've read. I will continue the search for a litter box solution. Ran is leaning toward getting a custom cubby created for it with outside access that we've read about. I'm still hoping for something a little less drastic. It's getting a little more real since we've moved our timeline forward to summer 2016 (maybe earlier)!

Jo,
We weren't sold on them either. In addition, with a laundry closet like ours, when the slides are in, there is no access to either the laundry closet or to the bathroom because those come together. So, if you had considered a litter box in there and planned to keep the cat in the trailer when traveling, they wouldn't be able to reach the litter box.
Something else I will mention here as it could be important. When you get your RV consider making sure it has one of those Progressive Industries power protection devices on it. We didn't have one in the three years we were at Oklahoma City in a mobile home park. We had issues with the washing machine with one quitting completely and a second needing a new "board" or something. I've come to the belief that our electricity was not "clean and stable" and caused the problems. The Progressive Industries device would shut down the entire coach if one encounters either low or high voltage.
Incidentally, we now have one of those devices on our trailer.

Thanks, Terry. With Ran's engineering background, he's made the Progressive device a gotta have (along with many other things). :)
Our plan is for the cats to travel in the truck with us for safety.
