Last August we bought a new RV that has a residential fridge. It's been great. Up until now.
We've dry camped with it twice in the last couple of weeks. Once for two nights and again tonight. When it is plugged into electric no issues. However, these last couple of times when dry camping and it is running off the batteries, the entire thing shakes and makes a noise in the motor. It never did this before. And now I just felt the ice cream and it is not as hard as it normally is.
Do any of you have experience with a system where the fridge runs off electric and a four battery bank but not propane? If so, how long does it stay cold when not plugged into power?

Hi Phyllis,
That shaking and motor noise sure sounds strange. We don't dry camp but have found our residential refrigerator/freezer stays cold I a batteries while we travel. Since it is less than a year old I would call the manufacturer and document with follow up by email to see if you can get help. We did have a different issue with ours early on and Frigidare sent us a new door and paid for the install.
Hope one or several of the guys pipe up with some good advice.

Sounds like you have a modified sinewave inverter instead of a pure sinewave inverter. A pure sinewave inverter will act just like shore power, but not everything likes the more squarewave power of a modified sinewave inverter, including many fridges.
We have a pure sinewave inverter and a residential fridge, it behaves fine.

I agree with Bill Joyce. Probably not a full sine wave inverter.

I also agree with the two above. I have seen that - although infrequently - with a MSW inverter. That would be my first thought.

We have a Samsung 197 now for a year we use a Magnum pure sine wave and performs very well glad we did it.
