Hi there everyone! I have only posted a few times. Hubby and I have been fulltiming for about 2 months now, but our current summer seasonal location lacks internet service, so that is why I have been MIA. We are located in Vicksburg MI at Oak Shores resort. A small rv campground with about 12 seasonals, a few work campers, and a spattering of weekenders. It is a lovely place near the town I grew up in, close to mom, and it gives us a chance to get used to the new to us digs while we prepare to launch in Oct.
Last Monday night we had a very horrible and frightening storm. It came upon us about 1:30am and woke us up with NO time to get over to the cement block bath house. The wind was howling, the thunder roaring, and the rain coming down like I have never seen. And lightning everywhere. after the storm we all checked on one another, and fortunately everyone was ok. There was damage to trailers, cars, office, and one gentleman's motor home was split in two!
The next morning when it was light and we could see, it looked like a war zone outside. You can read my account and see some pics on my blog (including a really cool story about the motorhome) We are happy to have made it through our first tornado/straighline winds intact. No power, no water, but that's ok we are ALIVE, and so is everyone else. Holing up at a hotel til we get it back.
All that aside, I am loving my life storms and all!

Wow!!! That was quite a storm. Glad your all OK.
You're very lucky to still have an awning. If we even think that there might be a storm overnight, or if we're going away for the day, we put up the awning.
I've seen too many RVs all torn up from the awning going up over the roof and damaging A/Cs and everything else up there.
Good Luck with your full-timing adventure.
Jim

Glad you are okay. That same 2 lines of storms blew through Chicagoland earlier that night, the first was heavy T-storms but the second at 10PM ... we had only seconds of warning time to duck into the basement when the warning flashed across the TV. No sooner were we down there, the winds increased to nearly 80MPH(as it was reported on TV later)and the hail came down hard. We were lucky(only a couple of branches down) at our location it was only a microburst, In Romeoville (next town over and about 3 miles away) they received quite a bit of tree and minor property damage from an EF1 tornado. I don't recall a more vigorous display of lightning and that includes the tornadic storms that hit Joplin, MO that I witnessed from a freeway exit ramp(no way I'm driving into that $#!& storm!) and the same thing for the tornado that hit the St. Louis airport, which I pulled up short on I55 and watched it roll past in front of me through southern IL. Weather is totally amazing to me and it's power and fury is something to be respected.

I am glad no one seems to have gottne hurt in all the storms, but here is a story about a tree that fell on an occupied motorhome yesterday during the storms.
Wow, you are definitely lucky to still have your awning. I have heard so many horror stories from people losing their awning in a sudden strong wind, even when it's not storming. Like Jim, we don't leave it out when we are going to be gone, or overnight either.

That looks like the very same motorhome shown at the Sage's blog post. Sure glad the guy never put his dog down. He's alive now because of it.

Yes, that is the same storm. I posted a pic on News 3's website, and that is how they learned of it. And ya know what? I will most definitely be putting that awning in with EVERY storm now! And would advise everyone else to do so as well! Still no power as of today. Still the tree on Guy's MH. I really miss my lil trailer home.

Wow! That would be scary. So glad that gentleman was ok. We're in NH and Hurricane Arthur came up the coast and we had LOTS of heavy rain and thunder and lightening but we're far enough inland and somewhat sheltered by surrounding hills so we had no problems. We're glad it cooled down as it was extremely hot and humid for a couple of days prior.
We are in a family campground and full up. They had a 4th of July decorated golf cart and bike parade through the campground yesterday tossing candy and necklaces. It's fun to see the kids enjoying the 4th in spite of rain, riding bikes and swimming in the heated pool in spite of rain. The families around us are all terrific and respectful. Normally we prefer quieter parks but this was engaging for a change and it all quiets down very early.
Seeing the dust storm in Phoenix and CA fires makes me think it's kind of crazy weather everywhere. Hope everyone else is safe.
