We are currently at Lake Hebgen just outside West Yellowstone and planning to move up tp Glacier NP, would like to stay on East side and out of park if that is doable. Any suggestions! We are loving our first visit to this part of the country!
thanks!

We stayed on the west side, but friends liked Johnson' Campground in St Mary on the east side. Looking at rvparkreviews.com, it is not cheap.

There are two RV parks we know of on the east side very close to the entrance.Johnston’s of St. Mary Campground and a KOA almost right across the street from Johnston's.
Both are “just a place to park.”No problem’s except some of sites at Johnston’s made me glad we had Big Foot levelers. But it was less expensive than the KOA.KOA is flatter, however. The Johnston's restaurant was expensive and so so at best. But Linda didn't have to cook and that was a good thing.
The KOA has rental cars at a good price.I strongly recommend not taking a pickup on the “Going to the Sun” road. SRW are OK (sort of) but DRW are a no-no. You don't need to stay at the KOA to get a rental there.

Would it be better to stay on west side of park? How is hwy 2 going from west to east through the park? We are in a 40 ft MH towing.

We are currently at Glacier NP. We are on west side in Columbia Falls RV park. Yes, all parks here seem to be pricey, but well worth the experience. We did drive over to the east entrance and road is fine...very gradual grade easy for RV. We were very glad to hear that the going to the sun road just opened and we plan to drive it in the morning. We were in Yellowstone last year and we stayed at Yellowstone Holiday RV park on Hebgen lake...good base camp. More stuff on west side of Glacier but east side is doable...Good Luck
