Does anyone know if it is possible to set up the system to get TV with just the 2 SATs? I have this happen a lot when in trees. Right now I just get the pixilated picture.

Yes you can set up to get just two satellites but it's better with three. You'll get pixelation and connection error messages while trying to go from one channel to the next when you only have two.
If you are using a manual dish make sure everything is plumb and you have the skew, elevation and azimuth set correctly.
Anytime I have a problem it ends up being due to the tripod/mount not being plumb. Unless there are overhead obstacles, then it's a matter of trying to move to a clear spot. At one campsite I had to run 150ft of Coax to a spot where there was an opening in the trees, finally got a good signal.

I have the Winegard roof automatic slimline system. I'm partially in trees, enough so I don't get the 119 sat. Yes, I get the pixilation all of the time. I just though that maybe there was a menu control somewhere that I could drop HD or something for a better picture with fewer satellite connections.

Yep - Assuming you’re using Direct TV and the Trav’ler roof antenna –
When you have a tree situation where satellites are blocked: Yes you can make this work with just one satellite to peak on and get your programming.
Using the manual mode on the antenna controller (read the manual) select Sat 101 only. The antenna will peak on just 101 and naturally with Direct TV that will give you all channels but only in standard definition. However, because the HD satellites are so close to 101, 99 & 103 the HD channel birds, most of the time they will be peaked enough to work.I do this all the time with excellent results.Any signal greater than about 80 will work most of the time. But the antenna has a much better chance of finding and peaking on 101 alone than looking for the 3 satellite constellation.
When you move to a better location without trees or obstructions be sure to change the setting back to the Multi-Satellite mode so you will get best peaking using more satellites to peak and more headroom during rain.

Yep, there is.Change your Receiver menu to show both SD and HD channels. Then use the SD channels when you have HD reception problems. My other post in this tread might be of help as well.
Make sure you set your receiver’s Program Guide to show “All channels I get” as well as “Show HD and SD Duplicates”

Thanks Bill! Great information! I tried this last night and we are now very happy campers sitting here in the Indiana trees. It would help know which channels are SD so I could just show those when in this predicament.
Again, thanks Bill!

Mark,
Glad it worked. Usually does.
On the receiver menu under preferences select display SD only. This will only show the SD channels in the guide. Selecting HD only will only show the HD channels. I select “both” (which is an option) on my receivers simply for convenience. In the guide display, when both HD and SD are displayed the HD channels will be the first listed (i.e. above the SD channel of the same number).
BTW this flexibility with trees and obstructions is why I recommend DirecTV as opposed to DISH in RV applications.
Hope this helps,
Bill

A follow up in case your question was from a different direction:
With only regional exceptions ALL channels from FNC to HBO are on the 101 bird in SD.So anything you are used to viewing in HD from the HD satellites can be found on the same channel number in SD via 101. You just have to select the appropriate “same channel” from the guide if both the SD and HD channels are displayed.IF you only have HD or SD displayed in the guide, then selecting a channel number will only get you the SD or HD version which is displayed.
Hope that helps in case the question was related to the above.

Ohhhh mannnn, Bill, more to learn about DTV! You didn't teach me all of it? Jesse said there was a great post about this on the forum I'm just getting to it.
Now I have to go find the darn satellite manual!!! I need another drink. 😊

You said the same thing when you learned how to set up local off-air TV channels to record on the Direct TV DVR with the AM-21 off-air receiver and now you do it like a champ.
Get the manual and read it before getting the drink. You might not need the drink?
