Even though we have only had our Forest River Cardinal 41' 5th wheel less than a year, we have been thinking of switching to a Class A so today we went out to just look around. On our travels we ran across a 38' Class A Winnebago Adventure (2014)with 4,000 miles that had just been traded in for a smaller 5th wheel and truck. Warranty is transferable...has every upgrade we would want...residential fridge, washer/dryer, built in satallite, Surge protection system, Onan generator, etc.
GCWR 30,000 lbs
GVWR 26,000 lbs
We love the floor plan, but it's gas. I have read on previous posts comparing gas vs diesel that anything over 35' really should be a diesel (which is what we were looking for) because of torque.
Here's what I need clarification on....
The brochure says :
Ford F53 26,000 lb chassis
362 hp 6.8L V10 SEFI Triton engine
Torque Shift 5 speed automatic overdrive transmission with towhaul,
Hydro-Max brakes with ABS, 175 amp alternator
Hydralic leveling jacks with 3 position controls
For those of you more tech sauvy than us, does this seem like it would have enough power ? This stuff makes no sense to me....Might as well be talking a foreign language
As always...thanks in advance for any input

I don't know much..
But i think Torque plays the major role in pulling.. not HP. Think of Hp as speed..
So you need the TQ Number...
Also, gear ratio in the tranny and rear end is the next big one..
All that said.. I'm sure in a 2014 you will have enough power.Even to pull a jeep or something.

I can give you my 2 cents worth of advise. You will be OK with the Ford V-10.
We travel in an older Monaco LaPalma with a V-10 that has 52,000 miles on it. We have traveled from Washington state to the East coast this year and will be back in Washington this late Summer. I think we have traveled on every kind of road available and I am happy with the V-10.
Many of those roads involved 10% grades and 7,000 foot passes. I definitely was not the fastest vehicle on the road but I wasn't the slowest either. A few of those passes had us going 35MPH.
We tow a Honda Fit and it makes very little difference to performance. I don't even know it's there.
If you need to be the fastest, get a diesel. If you can be content with doing the speed limit 98% of the time, a V-10 will serve you well.

We had a 2001 Winnebago Adventurer 35' with a V-10. It was one of the best quality rigs we ever had. We took Monarch Pass at about 25 to 30 MPH pulling a jeep. I thought I should have been going faster and I got "diesel fever". Looking back, I traded in the best motor home I ever had.

So I'm with Russ on this one.
