I have to a agree with the guy taking the video... that's just crazy. I don't care what you skill level is, that is just wrong on so many levels. When in doubt, keep out. I can't believe Stagecoach West would even let their drivers go in there, but then maybe there is more room in that tunnel than is apparent in the video.

Insane!!!! Sure would like to hear the outcome of the twists and turns the videographer spoke of.
Speaking of insane, after a late start yesterday I drove from Joliet, IL to Bristol, IN. When we got to the campground I was determined it was time for me to back in our site. I had only had the chance to try one other time since school. Of course I was drawing a crowd after about a half an hour and more than a couple bad words. After what was probably 25 attempts, I got out and said to poor Jesse, "You do it!!" It wasn't so easy for him either. We actually couldn't get into the assigned site and took the one next to it.
We were stopping here to spend night & see Red and Pam on our way to Cleveland. They ever so graciously offered to cook us dinner and that was a huge relief! Red kindly said theirs was the hardest site to get into he'd ever had. That made me feel a little better. Picture soft ground, lightly graveled sites uneven front to back and side to side - with a small hill just off the gravel, sewer connections in the middle of the sites, a narrow access road with lots of trees on the passenger side!
The rest of this week we'll be at Cuyahoga county fairgrounds and I'm hoping there will be LOTS of practice room there.

Dirty Harry line sums it up best..."a man's gotta know his limitations" Sherry, glad you knew when to turn over the rig to Jesse and glad he was able to "git 'er done" even if it was a different site. I have no doubt you'll be a master at backing in before you know it. Great visiting with you both and Sadie (Paris too) this weekend! Josie was moping around all day Sunday.

I know that road. The bus driver must be from Europe or South America, where such feats are daily occurrences for tour bus drivers.

Now, if you watch the video again, notice as the bus exits the tunnel that the mirrors are still extended. Meaning that there is more room than than it appears from the angle of the video operator.
From what I understand, this is in South Dakota in a place called the Needles Highway.
Now, knowing that, would you try it?

I've driven that Highway with a full sized van and I wasn't confident at all that I would make it through. I think those bus drivers have done that many time before and know just how to do it.

For some reason I can not view pic?, video! But if it is the needles highway then I and many other took my dually truck thru the tunnel. Very neat!
The buses I saw are not full sized, slightly shorter in height than normal bus.
Beautiful area with many many sites.

Looked at another video (from inside the tour bus with the driver commenting) says he does this twice a day and once in his sleep. Jokes the RVers go in with Winnebagos and come out with Airstreams.
Bill, the driver has a southern drawl, so he's not SA or European.
Still wouldn't do it with a rig. Sightseeing trip with the toad or TV.... sure

Reminds me of a tour we did in Mexico years ago. We went to visit my parents who wintered in Weslaco TX, for the first time. I asked mom if she could book a Mexico tour. She signed us up for a 3day 2night bus tour through Monterey and to Real de Catorce, which was the site of the first mint in Mexico. The bus turned off the highway on to a cobblestone road for nearly 10 miles. We got to our stop, in the mountains, and were told we would ride on a smaller bus to the little town on the other end of the tunnel. It was very snug and built with a curve or two in it. There was no way the larger bus, like the one in the above video, would get in the tunnel, much less through it.
Sherry, you will get backing up eventually. Just go very slow and concentrate on the rear of the trailer going where you want it. Then get out and take a bow.

Southern drawl, not a Texas drawl. A Texan would say "hold my beer and watch this".

Nope. Haven't made it to Colorado yet, but that day is getting closer with less than about 6 weeks of work and 8 weeks until Mountaindale.
Oh, and I wasn't referring to any of us trying to make the tunnel with our rigs. From what I read somewhere, the tunnel's height is only 13 feet, so I'm not sure our rig would quite make it. I've never measured it when hooked to the truck. I was thinking more along the lines of folks trying to drive one of those buses through.

One time in Idaho one of our dually's was riding on air, the road was so narrow. My DH hasn't gone to driving school but he got through. Guess who was walking...

Riding motorcycle with a group, we followed one of those tour buses up to one of those tunnels, thinking NO WAY!
The bus had to back up and go forward several times, to get lined up with the tunnel, as it was on a turn. Then he went thru. As Peterbilt truck driver and owner, VERY IMPRESSIVE!

We watched a tour bus go through there, Needles Highway in SD. That driver pulled in his mirrors. My only concern was a breakdown while it was in the passageway. Sadly, my camera ran out of battery power just as it showed up, so no pics.

The videographer did say it is the Needles Highway. Yes, you need to get the coach lined up properly. No, I'm NOT driving my coach through there. The Jeep, yes. The Foretravel, NO.

All you have to do is make one lap around 495 and then cut up thru I-95 during rush hour , if you do this just once you will become a master Instructor and be able to open a "Wicked Good Driving School"....
