I'm not typical an in some ways probably not normal, no surprise. I grew up in Denver and have spent the lions share of the past three decades in the southern tier where there is no snow and long hot summers. I used to be allergic to cold. As I get older I find myself more allergic to 110 degree days. At any rate, I find myself missing the transition from the cold winter to warm spring days. For that reason I am considering spending a winter in Colorado so I can reflect n my, long gone, youth. I have even begun to look into spending a winter in Anchorage. Typical conversation in the RV world is to spend the winter in warm climates. I get that. If I had spent this past year in snow country I might also be looking to escape, permanently.
Are there others who are fond of winter weather?

Fairbanks would work better than Anchorage. Anchorage sometimes goes above freezing in winter, Fairbanks can get to 60 below.
I remember one couple who decided they had not seen enough of Alaska so they stayed longer, moved to Homer, skirted the trailer and spent the winter. When "Breakup" (when the ice breaks up in the rivers) came in spring, they quickly headed south. They had enough.
You just need to spend time further north in California. We were in Lakeport for Christmas and it got down to 18 degrees one night. That was enough winter for us.

Mark,
You should be here in Denver today! We're having freezing rain, mixed with heavy snow, strong wind. We're supposed to get about 9 inches of snow by the time it is all over tomorrow. Mountains are getting about 2 feet of snow, I guess. Power is out to a lot of people in Lakewood, a car slid off the road in Clear Creek Canyon & is now submerged in Clear Creek. So overall , it's a pretty typical Spring day in the Rockies!

Bill, one winter in Alaska, five winters in KeyWest to make up for it.
Cindy, my family still lives all along the front range. On face book I have been teasing them with pictures of our peaches and the horrible sun storm we are having.

I live in Iowa and this past winter was one of the worst I have lived through. I will be thrilled to someday escape the cold and snow here and migrate south. Even if it is a case of staying here through the Holidays would be ok. January - March really gets to you.

Mark,
Not that I know anything about your "long gone youth," but since we will be in the Colorado Springs area, we might meet up some time so I can "make up" stories about your long gone youth. I just absolutely LOVE starting rumors, and the RV Dreams forums might be a good distributing system.
Seriously though, if you do winter in Denver, we'll soon be in Mountaindale Cabins and RV Resort southwest of Colorado Springs. Private message us here and we can exchange phone numbers so we can "lie to each other."

Mark, we live in Iowa also and it gets old really fast. This year (first year retired) we went to the SW for 2 1/2 months. Came home in mid-March to close on the house and nearly froze to death living in the Airstream in north central Iowa in March and April. Next year I am not coming back until April.

I grew up in southern California and only been in the snow maybe a dozen days. I have only seen it snowing three times.
I look forward to setting up somewhere from fall into winter just to experience that transition. I was thinking somewhere in New England to experience the leaf color change and then snow for days at a time.
I bet I only do it once and wonder why I left So Cal the whole time.

Mark, I guess we're not normal either liking the colder weather. Growing up in PA has helped, I'm sure. Neither of us want to go deeply south even in the winter months when we go full-time. We're just not hot, humid weather enthusiast. I never want to stay someplace long-term either that doesn't experience definite seasonal changes either. Love autumn, love the snow, love the cooler weather and I'm sure that's where we will frequent.

I think the desire to freeze is something that is bred into you. I may not miss it as much as I think, but I need to find out.
Terry, they wouldn't be lies. We can draw from each others experience to build tales from the aged. Tribe elders telling tribal lore. I feel a camp fire coming on. If we add Mike, Red, Pieere and a few others to this everyone else will need a scoop shovel. Nothing that a gallon of prop wash or a hunred feet of flight line wont cure. Can you say Snipe?

Mark,
Growing up in NW Ohio I liked all the seasons each for their own reasons. Unfortunately 30 years ago I found myself in Florida and there was no going back except for occasional trips. While I probably take the good weather and abundant sunshine in Florida a bit too much for granted, I too miss those cool fall days, cold winter mornings and warm spring afternoons as well as all the rainy and snowy overcast days. Perhaps it's the absence and the rose colored glasses approach to the past that makes me yearn for those types of days. I almost always finding myself looking for a vacation where the weather should be cool if not cold. Heck, a few years ago I even traveled to Stanley, Idaho just because it's known to be colder there in the summer than just about anywhere in the U.S. and don't even mention our November trip to Nova Scotia to Denise.
I would say I gotta agree with ya on this one!

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, always Summer, I had never played in snow. DH and I spent a Spring and Summer workcamping in Stanley and I loved it. There was snow in May and still cool nights in July and August, great weather, would love to go back.

I think everyone has made good points about this. It just might be trying to recapture my youth, even though I know that chicken has flown the coop... And been viciously killed.
Mike, DVDs won't work. Seeing it on TV is part of what is driving me north. Well, that and my mental illness.

Aw come on now, we all know your generous and thoughtful side is just wanting to go north to scout out, for the rest of us, the great campground sites that will be comfy once global warming takes hold and makes the frozen tundra into a tropical paradise.

Once we start out, I have no plans of being anywhere where there might be snow for a long while. Really not a fan of cold and snow. That said a 'quick' trip to Yellowstone in the winter to see its wonder would not be out of the question, but stay a season no freaking way. I have had enough of the cold. 110 in the shade does not bother me as much as cold does.
