I know it has only been a few weeks, but I am surprised that I don't find that I miss my dishwasher. I don't need as many dishes since I keep them washed and put away. Of course I am not cooking 5 or 6 course meals now. Just simple meals of casseroles and a vegie, or meat, potato, & salad. How do others feel about not having there dishwasher?

We don't have one in the coach and don't miss it. Gives us something to do in the nice outside. Handwash dishes in a small tub................Actually find it fun and relaxing.
If had to do that at home it wouldn't be so "Fun and Relaxing".

Just a light bit of fun poking.... I immediately went to the idea, there's another "questions that make you laugh" to put on that thread.
Explanation... while D/W's are a great convenience and we have one in our S&B we have such "busy" lives that we need one....(consumerist propaganda rattling around in my head.. Arrgh) I actually enjoy washing the dishes by hand,... the soothing feel of the mildy hot water, the slippery caress of soapy water. Small daily experiences to soothe the savage beast of hectic work life (compared to a life of a nomad) and the continual bombardment of the cacophany of pleas to buy this, do that in the name of making my life easier or more productive. Ohhh for the simpler life, I am sooooo ready to start FT..... to trade my bonds of employment servitude to the system and to move on to new fresh experiences. Okay so maybe I will be trading one master for another.... but that is free will, right? To me, a dishwasher is a symbol of that life that I want to move on from. So let it begin, my life.... without a dishwasher. My opinion FWIW

We have had a dishwasher in our last two 5ers. And will have one in the next - which is not built yet. I miss it. But not terribly.

Seriously, in our current rig, I wouldn't want to give up drawer space for one and we really dont mind hand washing yet I still look longingly at them when I see them in a rig. So if we could have one without giving up this space we would.

Paper plates in RV, no wash needed. Kidding aside, our S&B dishwasher leaked and ruined our kitchen floor, took it out and did not replace. We're just two people and three cats so it's not a big job to hand wash. Haven't missed the dw in 5 yrs, won't miss it in the 5r.

We ended up staying in an extended stay motel a few years back for three weeks while our motorhome was getting resided. It had a dishwasher, so we used it. It had been 7 years. We had no trouble going back to hand washing when we moved back into the motorhome.

I miss mine sometimes....there are days I want to go back and pick her up , but then I know better....when she gets to the bottom of that dish stack there is a cast iron skillet and she was pretty handy with it!!!!
(and some wonder why I solo and boondock!! )

Afterthought, the only time I miss the dishwasher is when my husband cooks and uses every pot, pan, bowl and utensil in the house. He believes the shoemaker's elves come in and clean afterwards.

Oh, too fuuny. I have to admit I haven't really ccoked a lot since we moved in so maybe it is too early to tell. We looked at a fifth wheel with a dishwasher but the RV was really to heavy to pull with our truck if we went into the mountains much. My dilemma now is more if I want to give up my coat closet/ trash, broom, cleaning supply closet, for a stackable washer/dryer. I have to say climbing in and out with clothes baskets isn't as easy as it was when I was younger. Also, where we are staying right now doesn't have a washateria. I have to go to the next town.
I only miss the dishwasher when we're making holiday meals and I cook a little more than usual. One change for us was to drastically simplify those holiday dinners, plus with limited counter space and not near as many mixing bowls, pans, measuring cups etc. we have to do dishes as we go so we have clean dishes to start the next recipe.

You go to the relatives house and use their dishes to make the meal or special dish. Then you use their dishwasher. That is our technique.

Bill - love it, use the relatives!! Only part of our personal strategy for the first year anyways, to simplify the holidays, we just avoid ALL the relatives and spent the holidays alone. I'm sure we won't do that every year, but this first year?? Yeah, it was a great way to keep the stress level down.

Diane didn't miss one but to be honest I'm happy to have one in our new rig. Even if Diane does them by hand they can go in the dishwasher to dry and they are not on the counter air drying. I don't like the clutter look.
I do talk Diane into using the washer to wash now and again.

NWescapee, I agree! As much as I love family holiday get-togethers, they are stressful, and there are LOTS of dishes. We will also be enjoying the winter holidays solo this year. As far as the dishwasher? No, I don't miss it. Dishwashing is Zen for me, just like folding laundry. I worked years in the restaurant business and am a clean as you go gal, so my kitchen never gets trashed.

Not me but then we got one put into our New Horizons…a brilliant decision as it filled a bit of storage in the kitchen counter that was hard to reach and would have been mostly wasted anyway. It did cost us more of course…but it does a full load on 1.9 gallons of water and I can't wash that many dishes that efficiently. We run ours about every 5 or 6 meals we cook…it's not as big as the one we had in the S&B but plenty big enough.

A benefit not often mentioned is that you can use the dishwasher as a drying rack for the dishes you wash by hand.....thereby negating the need for one of those countertop drying racks, saving countertop space too!
We'll have a dishwasher in our FT rig if at all possible. It's not a deal breaker on an otherwise perfect RV, but if we can, we will!

I do not miss mine as I had quit using one a few years back when we replaced our old one with a new one and I could not stand how it washed my dishes (or really did not) and that my dishes did not fit in it right.
Now that we have been in the RV a year and on the road a little over two months I am finding that I am getting better at not using as many dishes when I cook. I love to cook and after being a Pampered Chef consultant for 20 years I love my kitchen tools too. But I had to give up many kitchen things in our downsizing and although I miss many of them, I am finding that I can cook with less. Now less to me is probably more to most, but it is working.
I do not have a drying rack as it took up precious kitchen tool space, so I have one of those micro-fibre drying pads that I fold in half and put in one sink and I wash and rinse in the other and stack in the sink for air dry. Sometimes gets a little crowded, but I am good at cleaning as I go so I do not have too much to wash after meals.
The big trick for me is learning to use less water. I was blessed with an overflowing spring at our s&b home and did not have to worry about my water consumption. Now it is different story. i am having to learn not to fill my galley holding tank too quickly. Also I use a wash tub when we do not have hook-ups, which has been often in this first two months on the road cause we like to stay in more rural camping places like state parks, national forrest, and friends yards. So I have been washing with less water so I can throw out the sink water into the drain pits or bushes and that has been a learning curve for me.
Most of my cupboards are food related storage and I am finding there are probably things I will be able to live without. But I wanted to give myself 6 months on the road at least before I started downsizing again so that I have ample opportunity to use is.
