O.K., oh wise ones, we are ramping up to hit the road (albeit slowly!) and are curious about which hard copy map(s) you would recommend. I did a search herein, but the information was all fairly old. My husband is looking for an Atlas-type book that shows most, if not all (?), of the roads across the U.S. (and Canada?). We will be driving (taking a road trip) to the rally next month and it would be most helpful to have a map we can hold. Your input is greatly appreciated! Many thanks!!!

I'm a bit jaded toward the rand McNally truckers atlas because I have gotten used to using it. The cool part is that you can get the laminated one that takes a lickin and keeps on tickin.

Nina from WheelingIt created a nice write-up on maps and other related resources last August (http://www.wheelingit.us/2013/08/05/planning-rv-travels-part-iii-maps-resources-links/), she mentions the trucker atlas as well as other resources (e.g., Benchmark Maps for use in the West). Based upon that and other blog postings that I have read, we purchased the laminated trucker atlas (which is quite nice), some relevant benchmark maps as well as "the Next Exit" guide all through Amazon.com. Not certain how useful the last one will be, but the other two will be very useful.
The best of the best...................That's what I have.

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions. DH picked up the Motor Carriers version of the Rand McNally laminated atlas at Love's on his way home this afternoon. Pretty cool! Now I can find my way to Tennessee... maybe?
BTW, it came to $31.00 and some change. It was $50.00 on Amazon before taxes and shipping. Go figure!

So would those of you who have the Rand McNally Truck paper Map and Rand McNally Truck GPS, agree you need both or not? If not, which do you prefer or use, and why?

Another to consider, although maybe not paper maps, is the Mountain Directory maps. They have "East" and "West" editions and I understand they also cover grades and perhaps overpass information.
Terry
Update: After looking over the Mountain Directory website, it appears I was mistaken and they do not appear to have the information on overpasses and underpasses.

Bought my R/M laminated in 94 and still use it daily. Held up every well over all these years. A wealth of info in the front pages.. each State listed showing low overpasses. While waiting to deliver i pick it up and just look over States to see points of interest, with hopes of 1 day to see them in person.
