My 5th wheel has a double sink with a corian counter top. My stove has the same corian surround. Both the sink and the stove have covers made of the same material as the counters which when inserted, fit snugly and make it look like one surface, so you cant see the sink or stove top.
My question is...do these covers have a practical purpose other than looks? Someone told me they thought they help protect the sink and stove from any shifting movement while traveling. I personally would like to take them out and leave them at home as they are pretty heavy and I would like to eliminate the extra weight. Anyone have any insight on this?
Thanks,
Marilyn

They are for looks, or if you need extra counter space. We use the sink to hold the kitchen gadgets and plants when we move.

maybe to hide dirty dishes when the in-laws pop in? LOL
Seriously though, we do not ever use the sink covers, have them stored somewhere, not really sure where anymore. Our stove cover is hinged so it raises up and folds against the wall behind the stove and acts as a sort of back splash and we do lower it to travel and it makes a decent work space if you are not cooking anything.

We use them for counter space when I'm cooking up a storm. I agree they're heavy but we have a cabinet they fit perfectly in when not in use.

With some installations, traveling with the sink covers in place can lead to causing the sink to come loose from the countertop, depending on how the sink is attached to the top. If they used an adhesive, the extra weight could be a problem. Our covers have been under the sink ever since we got our coach.
On a little different note, our Mobile Suite's range cover is also hinged and also serves to switch off a gas valve when it is closed. That is just one more bit of "insurance" that gas will be off when the range is not being used.

Have absolutely no idea why someone would tell you that. We've stuffed all kinds of things in the sinks while traveling and had no problems. We only use the covers when we've company or need the extra counter space. They lay in the bottom of the sink cabinet otherwise.

Covers always seem to be too heavy and clunky for my taste. I also need my sinks open while I'm cooking because I either need water or I have to wash something. 90% of the time they end up in a cabinet or anywhere except over the sink.
