Yeah, after the feet of snow over the past few weeks, we had a few days in the 50s (NJ). I even heard birds chirping in the morning - harbinger of spring? Then the polar vortex returned and now they're talking about another major snowstorm from Sunday through Tuesday.

Lonney..... I can relate, when our Puggle Daisy goes outside in below 0 weather she only gets out so far before she locks up and we have to run out and get her. She can usually run out, do her business and run in but when it is really cold she just locks up and looks at you!

I, for one, certainly hope this is the last of the really cold weather. Because we have been static here for 3 years, we leased a 120 gallon LPG tank that sits outside our fence. That is so I didn't have to constantly haul the 40# bottles to get them filled. Since we are going to be moving to Colorado in July, we want to get all of the LPG in the 120 gallon tank used up so we get our money's worth. Last I looked, we have 27 percent in that tank and any extra cold spells will likely force me to haul bottles. We are supposed to get down to about 9 degrees tonight. Back when we were really cold for about a month, we used quite a bit in just one month. I've been running the electric heater in the living area at nights to help cut down on the LPG usage.

2 weeks ago we did a rapid repositioning from Tucson AZ to Dallas TX due to a family situation and will be here another 2 weeks.
Weather has been way too variable here in Dallas, now we're remembering why we were so glad to move away 12 years ago, we've had freezing temps, temps in the 80's, strong winds and now the real fun is beginning with the possibility of freezing rain tomorrow and temps dipping down into the 20's.
So not looking forward to this, not sure we've ever had temps that low in the this rig and we were really hoping that as full timer's we could avoid the winter mess.

This winter has been so screwy. While everyone east of the continental divide has suffered from freezing temps and snow, we have had no winter to speak of. No moisture all winter. I have a 4 foot square spot of patio that is always in the shade. Every year algae grows on that spot and every spring I power wash it off. Not this year. This storm is the only rain we have had all winter. I hope the crops don't suffer too much from the drought. If they do, we will all $ee it at the grocer$.
I remember some cold and wet winters as a kid in Denver. Lots of snow every year. Then as my kids were growing up we didn't seem to get near as much. I wonder if that is selective memory or if the winters really did change.

Ruth,
We've had temps down to 8 degrees in our Mobile Suites and have not had any problems. We are using both electric heaters and the fireplace while we are up, and then I switch to the furnaces when I go to bed. Even down in low temperatures, I've not seen the underbelly freeze up. In fact, I've not seen it below 40 degrees there. The biggest issue you might have is to have a hose from the hydrant freeze up. Put water in your fresh water tank and then shut off the hydrant and drain the hose. Then operate off of the fresh water pump instead of outside water.
This year, I bought one of those Pirit heated hoses and put some split foam insulation around the hose. Even down to 8 degrees, the hose has not frozen. The hydrant might would have if I didn't have a box over the underground faucets and kept a 110V trouble light in it to keep it warm inside.
Now, Colorado next year will likely be more of a challenge for us.

Water will be disconnected tomorrow as the temps drop, furnace and electric heaters will run, we don't have to move the rig for at least another week so by then we won't have ice when bringing in the slides, but thanks for that tip, hadn't even thought of that before.
Our biggest issue is personal, this will be the first day Dale's Dad has been totally by himself since Dale's mom died, the last of the family that had flown in and was staying at his house had to fly home today. Our plan was to spend tomorrow afternoon / evening with him, now we're not sure if we can make the 25 mile drive if the roads get icy.

We've now been inside for 24 straight hours, watching the wind blow the snow, sleet and water off the lake and watched the temps get all the way up to 28 before heading back down to the current 22.
We have absolutely no issue with hanging around a campsite for a day or three or more, but how do you deal with being stuck inside the RV the entire time? Missing my walk, Tazzy Kat missed her walk and overall we're just feeling a little trapped. And we just found out that with 30 AMP hook ups the TV has to be turned off while I'm baking our dinner.

OK, I know we are where we needed to be due to family circumstances, but I really, really didn't ever envision these temps as a FT'er, in fact, this is exactly what we wanted to avoid. Oh yea.The electric mattress pad makes a huge difference. Much better, in our opinion, than a electric blanket. Especially when boondocking it takes very little power, less than the LP furnace actually, and can allow you to lower the furnace temp a bit at night if you like. We wouldn’t be without one.

Temps here in Oklahoma City have "almost" quadrupled since this morning. At 3:30 this morning, I checked temps and it was 6.6 degrees outside. Here it is almost 4:00 pm, and now it reads 23 degrees. I was even out draining and flushing the black tank when it was around 17, but because there was a bit of a breeze, I had a pair of jeans on over my sweat pants. At least it looks like our external LPG tank may very well last us through the winter. Still got about 18 percent in the 120 gallon tank.
More training for Colorado. Another front is supposed to come through this coming weekend, but I don't think it will get quite as cold. Also, I think I need to start researching for cold weather gear for next winter.

Last night was just too cold, when Tazzy Kat finds her way under the covers (3 times in the 5 years she's been part of our family) you know it's darn chilly. She surprised me this afternoon, wanted to go for a walk, I attached the leash and had to let go as she went running across the ice or I would have ended up in a very undignified position on my bum Turns out that while she still doesn't like the cold, all the birds our bird feeders were attracting were too much for her to resist, hence the afternoon walk!!
Now we're starting to plan our "bug out" to move first a little north to see our kids/grandkids in OKC and then back to the warmth of California. Still not sure of the utlimate date / route, will depend on when we feel "ok" about leaving Dale's Dad alone, but at least there is light at the end of the tunnel and the knowledge that we survived one really hard freeze with more ice than we ever anticipated as FT'ers and hoping this was the last really, really cold we're destined to face as FT'ers.
Life brings the unexpected and yes, we can deal with it, but really hoping we won't have to deal with this kind of winter again any time soon.

I can imagine how Dale wants to get on the highway headed to visit with his dad; I remember when I drove from Phoenix AZ to almost Canada in New York State as my dad was in the hospital.
