We recently changed our service to add Distant Network Service requesting an East Coast Feed. From all we understood and from the paperwork I completed requesting the East Coast Feed, we could get east coast feeds but nooooo. I was told after the fact that because we're registered in South Dakota we MUST get the West Coast feed because the FCC changed the rules in 2010 and we can not East Coast nor can we purchase both coast feeds.
Trying to work around it and get the networks, ABC, CBS & NBC on east coast she offered to change our zip code once to a New Hampshire address. Saying we could only change our zip code only once every six months and we could change it back ourselves by using the satellite set up feature and changing the zip code there. On the higher number channels (200's/300's) which the supervisor told us we could not get, I did use the search functions and did find the major networks on those higher numbers but can only record them, we can't watch them in real time. We are unable to change it back as she stated so I am calling in again to change it back, but having a H#*] of a time getting thru to an agent. Now I have an agent on the phone who can't understand what I'm requesting. Finally got to technical support who understood and changed us back to a west zip code.
We have the AM 21 receiver to pick up local channels but I understand we must have locals available on the antenna for that to work?
So heads up, I was told the friends we know who have both east and west coast feeds will lose that at any time they change their service or upgrade As it was grandfathered in.
I don't know if this makes any sense But i hope so. I don't fully understand the regulations nor DTV customer service!

There are two possible solutions; we have a "winter" address in VA, which is our son's house who gets our mail. Our "summer" address is our SD mailing address with America's Mailbox. We switched back and forth a couple of times since you can now only get east or west feeds. Some of the folks doing this longer are grandfathered in and get both of them. At our last switch we ended up with both so we're just not saying anything to anybody.
Second solution is the AM-21 box which hooks up to your batwing and your DTV receiver and gives you local stations off the air but they are assigned channel numbers on your DTV box. This lets you get true local channels wherever you are. You need to point your batwing in the right direction as well; we use http://transition.fcc.gov/mb/engineering/dtvmaps/ and it gives us the right compass direction to aim the batwing at; turns out that here in Fort Myers FL all of the stations are out to the NE so we don't have to move it between stations.
The first couple of times we switched our DNS around we had to call several times until we found out a person that could handle it…I learned to ask for tech support from the outset of the call.

This should really be simpler.
