Is there anyway to leave her in the 5th'r will moving? She would be in familiar surroundings.

Would you consider holding her on your lap? I know it isn't the safest, but would probably ease her anxiety.

I wish I could help you there. Paris got sick once on one of our recent moves, but we stayed for several days and she was fine. It might also have had to do with daily "desensitizing" visits for a week from 3 very active small, loud grandkids.

I know both she and Sadie get anxious and hide when they recognize sights and sounds of our packing up.

No food or drink 4 hrs before departure....

If it's anxiety, there is a homeopathic medication you can buy called "Homeopathic Anxiety Relief" that my vet gave me once. Works for dogs or cat. Helped my dog who was terrified of thunderstorms, and helped my friend's cat who became very anxious in the car. If it's motion sickness you might want to ask a vet if there is something that would help. And ditto the no food or drink 4 hrs before departure :)

Good suggestions, we did feed her earlier this morning than usual and we kept her in the trailer with us until the very last minute when she and I moved to the truck at the same time instead of putting her in the truck first. She hates the slides / hydraulic jacks moving but that seems to bother her less than being left alone in the truck for a while.

She did ok for the first several hours then had a "drooling" session part way through the afternoon. After she calmed down from that I tried to hold her on my lap and that's when she threw up. Guess I'm not doing that again, sheesh.

Of course she did all that right after we were 30 miles east of El Paso with absolutely no pet stores, health stores, etc. for 200 miles. Found a PetSmart in Midland TX and bought a couple of products we'll try tomorrow on the last day of our drive.

We've ruled out leaving her in the 5'ver going down the road, we had slides she can get under when they are retracted and we just think that would freak her out even more. She seems to do better when she's sitting where she can stare out a window rather than anywhere in the center of the truck, so makes me think it's car sickness, maybe.

One more thing we did with one of our problem kitties....left in the carrier with a blanket covering her...the looking out the window thing even though she seems to want it could be making her more sick....shut her senses down....

Thanks MarkS - El Paso wasn't exactly on our list of places we just really wanted to drive through but given the circumstances of having to get from Tucson to Dallas ASAP we had no choice.

However, pleased to report that after the "calming spray" on her kitty carrier / bed in the truck, soothing gel smeared on her paw that she had to clean off and therefore digest, we made the last 350 miles of our drive today without any kitty slobber or other issues.

She's a happy camper once again, backed into our camp spot for the next 2-4 weeks, got everything leveled, put the slides out and she immediately noticed all the ducks walking around near the lakeshore, oh yeah, happy cat tonight!!

Hi Dale and Ruth, Don't panic but it is very possible that your cat has had or was having a mini stroke. One of my wonderful cats had several in the past and it does resemble the symptoms you describe. My 3 travelled with me all over for years and only 1 had this happen and she recovered within days [hours on the 2nd one]. This happens more than many people realize but it will be very evident when you are travelling with your pet. "Shivers" had about 3 and had no long term effects and lived to age 18. Anxiety closely mimics a mild stroke so you may never know but keeping her calm is the right thing to do in either circumstance. If she slurs her meows you would know- just kidding! Loss of co-ordination is not a symptom[in a minor one] so it is difficult for even a vet to determine. If you have any medical knowledge check her eyes for improper dilation during and after which would help your vet if need be in the future. Keep an eye on her and hopefully she will be fine for many years. My kitty had them 3 to 4 years apart so don't worry to much, you are doing all the right things for her.
