I just read on another thread that Lucky Mike has left the forum. How tragic!! I am not clear what precipitated his leaving but I sense he has become disgusted with judgemental commentary. Mike is a major reason we joined this forum. He has his head screwed on straight and has been inspirational with his "can do" spirit. I for one would miss his perspectives. I say would, rather than will, because I am hopeful that we, collectively, can win him back.
FWIW.... Mike, come back please!!!!

I'm seriously hoping Lucky Mike will read this thread and see his way past whatever has disrupted, what to me seemed to be, an inplacable calm. I only know him through this forum and already feel an empty feeling because of his decision. The thread in question has been edited to make it impossible to know what transpired for anyone who wasn't reading it at the time. As Bjoyce has said in the thread..."Nothing to see, move along..." We are an interesting tapestry of personalities and sometimes we can rub others the wrong way. On the whole it is my observation that Lucky Mike has way more fans than insensititive opinionators(is that a word?). His leaving would be a huge loss to the majority of folks on this forum. I urge everyone to plea for Mike to reconsider his decision.

I'm at a loss here because I fail to see any specific direction that this forum might be heading in. I don't see much talk about religion, politics, race, sexual preferences, or any of the other bugaboos that invariably lead to dissension among fellow travelers. All I've seen so far has pretty much stuck to topics directly related to buying, maintaining, and living in an RV, which is why I stumbled into the room in the first place.

But with all due respect, lets not blow this out of proportion - the forum is not out of control, has not become hostile in any way, and is still the most civil forum I have seen anywhere. In my opinion there is no evidence it has turned "negative" at all.
There will always be comments that people will not agree with. It is part of life. The people here are about as non-judgmental as you could find in life. And this forum is well managed....I see nothing at all to be concerned about. My personal opinion only....

I will echo Jack's comments.
I will also miss Mike. I posted the video somewhat to support what Mike was trying to say until he was blue in the face and fingers, you can live in an RV cheaply. I am bummed it seemed to have caused Mike to hit the last straw and leave the forum. Mike strikes me as someone who makes a decision and sticks to it, so don't expect him to come back to the forum anytime soon.
I also agree this forum is not out-of-control. Another forum Jack and I frequent, the Escapees forum, does have much more hostile talk and can get way out of hand before a topic is shut down. I, and some others here, participate on that forum because it is larger, with a lot of experienced people, but asbestos skin is needed there. Moderation is much faster and more even handed here.

As the OP on this thread, I agree with Jack and Bill. Bill's post of the "RV expenses video" was a useful and enlightening view of another way to FT and what is possible for those with less resources. If one has more they can make difference choices. Unfortunately for me, I have not been on the forum long enough to know exactly what Mike was referring to with regard to the "turn" he mentioned. I sent him an email expressing my sadness at his decision and asking for some enlightenment about it so that we may learn from it. Perhaps this outpouring of goodwill will sway him back into the fold, if not so be it. His grace, wisdom and wit will be missed.

But If I liked the topic, I'd argue my side with conviction. I always gave as good as I got, (often better) and I'd have sooner been dipped in you-know-what than leave a group that I enjoyed.

Even in his leaving Mike gives us all an opportunity to find our best selves. For those of us who appreciated his generous spirit, helpful experience and joyful enthusiasm, we can be grateful for the time spent "with him" (for me it was very short). I'll show my thanks by paying attention to how my words may be interpreted and by not over-reacting to the words of others. I'm still human, but I will try really really hard .
