I checked with my RV shop to find out what they would charge me to install this wired system.
(7” REAR VIEW BACK-UP CAMERA SYSTEM REVERSE TRUCK SAFETY). They quoted me $1,040 labor to install ( at $130/hr.), that seems a little high. Anyone have any idea how many hours it might take to install? I have a 1998 26ft. Fleetwood Flair class A.
Thanks in advance.

you have a 26 foot unit and are about to install roughly 30 to 40 ' of wire either through a wire loom or frame channel plus power to the camera accessories plus interior hookups........6 hours minimum
you might want to try a wireless system .......RV shop rates are high....try a car stereo or car alarm installer you might save a bunch of money by cutting the labor rate in half or better!

Have you thought about installing it yourself?

Hey Mike, I ordered the 42' cable instead of the shorter one that comes with it...Think that is long enough?

If you can park on a paved driveway or pad where you can roll around on a mechanics creeper then the rest is easy. The hardest part for me is crawling or kneeling under the camper. The wiring is pretty simple to follow. Most kits give a good description of what wires to use etc.

You should have more than enough wire.....before you start stringing it just do a dry run to make sure your going the shortest route......its not that difficult of a job if your up to it!!

The labor time can add up but the $130.00/hr is a bit steep. $85.00/hr should be the more reasonable.............At least around here anyway. Other than doing it yourself, like others have said try a car stereo/audio shop to do the install. It does not need to be done by an RV Dealer.

I hardwired from the rear-top, just under the clearance lights to the forward-most Pod Bay (like, "Open the pod bay door, Hal.") where I plugged to the wireless transmitter. Transmitter worked just fine at 50' - until I put a trailer between the transmitter and receiver. Then I got nothing but interference. My rig is 40' bumper to pin and a 50' video cable fit just fine. I chose a "bird's eye" height to assist with 5er backing but with hind-sight, I'd bring that down a bit. Stringing the cable through the rear cap was most difficult but an old wire coat hanger with a folded hook and a lot of profanity got the job done. I pulled camera power from the center clearance light so lights must be on for the camera to work. I unbolted the plastic that encloses the tanks in order to keep the cable "inside" as much as possible. Total installation time - 4 hours. Mistakes, miscues, bad planning, rework, broken cable (long story) - another 8 hours, at least. Worth every penny, and the time.
