My wife and myself really don't want to commit a month or a whole season to work camping. But we would like to maybe exchange some hours for cash or site discount. We would like to try this if we were to stay some where for a week or more. If anyone has tried this or has any other suggestions let us know?

We lived in a mobile home/RV park near Tucson, AZ and we would see different people cleaning up the building/grounds. I asked the manager "Have you hired someone?" and he said that sometimes people ask if they can work for their site and since he was manager and maintenance, he had no issue making the trade. This was the only place that I had seen it done. I'm thinking if you had skills and were looking around and see they were needed that it wouldn't hurt to ask. I wouldn't depend on it but it would be a possibility.

I've done it several times exchanging labor.......now I just Trade out product with them.....it works well for me!!
there is never any harm in trying.....you have absolutely nothing to lose by asking and a good gain for doing so!!!

Ed & Vicki: If you have no qualms about cleaning bathrooms and bath houses; then I believe you would have no trouble with short-term. I found out with my previous work camping jobs; this is one area where most frown away from. When i first came to where I am staying now; helped the owner when the sewers stopped up; used my moped w/basket on the carrier to pick up trash without being asked. A lady that cleaned the bathhouses and restrooms quit and I was asked about taking over her job in exchange for rent. It couldn't have come at a better time as my savings was flat.
I would say the best to do is to just be bold and stop by campgrounds and ask; most they can say is no! Check out Lucky Mikes' other posts as he has many opportunities for an extra buck. There also is many who do boondocking either in the country or use box stores for overnight stops. Here is one site: AllStays.com; then there is GasBuddy.com for fuel.
