Being in KS, I'm really glad to be in a S/B right now. Today it got up to 38 degrees and I made ice cream because of the heat wave! My brother is in MI living out in the county and he said the roads were plowed but anyone going out was getting a ticket! We were at Wal-Mart today and they had several shoppers in the electric heater area and some looking at the kerosene heaters. We only got a couple of inches but we have ice since it is packed down and the city doesn't maintain the streets............ This has to be our last winter with snow and ice so we are going into "aggressive" get out of town and don't get tied down mode which started yesterday. I do hope that everyone is keeping warm and that these cold bursts won't continue.

We were at -16 yesterday, -8 today with a -45 wind chill here in Chicagoland. Coldest I 've seen since I moved to USA in 1988. No serious issues, except Josie did not like going out to do her business. I'd rather not even have to deal with this cold, hence part of the desire to FT. At least for now, thankful to have an cosy S&B to keep the chill away.

It was 0 to -2 the last two days in Michigan, wind chill was just cold, had almost 2 feet of snow in the driveway, had to get the snowplow out, I was pushing it up to 5 feet when I stopped, I plowed all the way around our 5th wheel and in front of it just in case our business sold I could get the truck hooked up and backed out of the driveway and we be heading out west where it is warmer. I told my wife I will not do this again, we will be gone next year (period) she said let's do it.

Maybe I ought to complain that this topic has gotten "off-topic." After all, the title of the thread refers to "the cold." Perhaps anyone that has been above a "certain temperature" should be required to just keep quiet. However, if that were the case, I'd probably have to keep my comments out as well. We've finally gotten above freezing for a few days with some upcoming days getting close to 60 degrees.
We did have one little instance of freezing up a few days ago. We have an underground faucet, so we had a box built with a hinged lid so that I could place it over the faucet area and hang a trouble light inside for heat. However, I goofed and laid the lid for the normal faucet "container" over the valves and that lid prevented some of the heat from getting to the valve. Fortunately, we didn't have anything burst from the freezing. While a number of folks have complained that the Pirit heated hoses are unreliable, so far, ours has been working for us, even down to 8 degrees.
Stay warm everyone.

Talked to a friend of mine who runs an after hours call center for a service company and she said this is the worst weather event she's seen in 15 years. Keeping in mind she worked through Katrina, Florida hurricanes and Oklahoma tornados I wondered why and she said it was because of how much of the company it covered. Usually weather events are more localized. Keep in mind when it warms up lots of pipes are going to burst so it's actually going to get worse before it gets better

We had a couple of cold nights here in North Florida (Jacksonville FL)
Water hose froze 2 nights so we ran off onboard water tank, no problems.
We stayed warm and cozy, ran fireplace and 2 small electric heaters, propane furnace cycled on and off about once an hour.
