Ok so I am not a big resolution person but there's some things I definitely want to accomplish this year
1. Finish my MBA...two more classes left hooray
2. Sell our house...painting starts in March should have on the market by April
3. See my youngest child through her senior year and into the Air Force hopefully into the crypto linguistics program..
4. Receive my new 5th wheel and enjoy a summer of seasonal camping also get it ready for the road
5. Get completely debt free
6. Get the consulting company ready to go
7. Find our first job either consulting or work kamping...whatever works best :)
8. Be poised and ready to hit the road at the end of 2014
9. Finish reading all of Howards journal. I am up to January 2009 and have been making notes as I go. Everytime I feel I have learned it all...I come across another gem :)
10. Simplify...simplify...simplify

Rather than making any resolutions I usually pick a word that defines the direction in which I want my thoughts and actions to go for the upcoming year. For 2014, I have chosen "minimalism". It has since evolved (which is the idea) into thinking about my relationship with my stuff and my money. After 2+ years of fulltiming I am learning just how very little I need to be happy. Shelter, food, clothing, family and friends are all I really need. So, I am focusing on training myself to love what I have rather than wanting anything I don't have.
Just in the few short weeks of doing this (using a philosophical approach called stoicism) I am amazed at how much easier contentedness comes to me. I thought it was a big deal getting rid of all of our stuff and moving into an RV...now I enjoy the challenge of getting rid of stuff almost every day. If it doesn't serve a specific and realistic need...it goes. So far that's included technology devices, cable tv (news!), tools, some clothing, etc.
So my word of the year, "minimalism" has transformed into focusing on the word "tranquility". That's my aim for 2014...minimalism for the sake of tranquility.

A few years ago, even before considering full timing, we went throug a similar process. Or word was "Simplify". We even had a decorative garden sign that we displayed promenantly in our back yard garden the said "Simplify". Unbeknownst to us at the time, it as a premonition of things to come. For the next couple of years we slowly cleaned out the attic and got rid of so much stuff that we didn't need. It was really quite freeing and helped prepare us for where we are today. A year later we bought our first RV. Ten months after that we traded for a bigger MH, sold the house and everything in it and now full time. Life is good. Oh yeah, resolution... Not to back into any more garages.
