I think that title might be an oxymoron-but when we first started our adventure one of Howard's criteria on the test for readiness was "are you flexible". I am a planner by nature but willing to learn flexibility. That came in handy several times on the mountain in Utah. No electricity, no phones, no water source immediately available-we learned planning and flexibility. Now, as we are at home in Kansas for the holidays we are planning our return but have to be flexible again. Shortly after our return to KS a family member and her husband were shot at their rural home. She passed away later that night and her husband passed yesterday. Preliminary hearings and trial dates are scheduled well into the New Year so our plans will have to be flexible. Thank you to Howard and Linda who encouraged us to go for our dream despite my not passing the flexibility question--it is an acquired trait. Best to all of you this holiday season and into the New Year. Steve and Kate

We also are very sorry for your loss. I think once you get the hang of being flexible without any effort, you'll enjoy life a lot more. It is so disappointing to make plans and see them fall through and you'll avoid that. Just rolling with is so much easier and the better you get, the better it will feel. I hope the legal matters are settled in a satisfactory manner and quickly so you can get back on the mountain and share those photos and experiences to the one's in waiting. Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year.

Let me add my sincere condolences; I can't even begin to imagine the pain you and your family must be experiencing.
Glad you are finding your way with flexibility, as am I. I, too, tend to plan things to the molecular level and used to freak out if anything threw my schedule off. This even extended to clutter -- I'd freak if a paperclip was out of place! But now, amidst a lot of construction work going on inside my house and everything being topsy turvey, not to mention our plans being thrown out of whack due to my losing my job, I am learning to roll with the punches. I have actually found a great sense of calm and peace in just dealing things as they come.
Good luck and success as you get through this very hard time.

Steve and Kate,
I am so very sorry for your family. It's beyond my imagination as I'm sure it was beyond yours!
Yes, it's helpful to be flexible but acquiring it this way is just hard.
Sending you hugs, courage and strength as you start your new year in these very difficult circumstances.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am glad they have the people responsible in custody. I have family in Hutchinson and Wichita so I get to Kansas every once in a while.

What a horrible experience for anyone to have to go through, and my heart goes out to all affected by it.
One of the most powerful benefits of this mobile lifestyle to the increased flexibility we have to really and truly be able to 'be there' when it matters and help others out through difficult times. Sending you and your family strength through this time.
