Bill and I went yesterday and picked up our "new to us" truck! For those who didn't read my other thread - it's a 2011 Ford F350 Diesel Dual Rear 4x4 supercab! Beautiful Golden Bronze color! It's an XLT package but we are probably going to add the moonroof and auto start (those are the two features from the Lariat package Bill really wanted). It came with a factory installed 5th wheel prep package, a factory installed sprayed in bed liner, a Tonneau roll-up cover and the guy also sold us his Elite Series RE 18K hitch. I want to get Weather Tech window "thingy's" (I forget what they are called) like I have on my CR-V and also a bug shield and mud flaps. Oh - and seat covers (it's adobe interior and while nice, is on the lighter side) Bill took it to work today to show off, but I have to remember to ask what he is telling them about buying it, as they have no idea of our plans yet.
So, this Thanksgiving - I am grateful for my new truck! One HUGE step closer to living the dream!
And - I am also VERY grateful for my new friends here on this forum - for all the support and info - and yes, I am going to say it - LOVE that you all show to everyone here! Bill and I can hardly wait to meet you all at the rally in April!
In case I don't get back on here (I've got a lot of baking to do today!), I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! (what I am talking about - of course I will be back on here!)
Kelly and Bill, too!

I'm going to have to update my old 2004 F-250 when we hit the road full-time...if anyone is interested in a low mileage F-250 SRW keep a look out on the classifieds. It's barely broke in with 26,000 original miles. We are going to need the F-350 or F-450 DRW to pull the RV we want.

I wish I knew about it before I pulled the trigger, but I just bought a 2008 F-250 6.4l. I wasn't ready to buy just yet, but I couldn't resist the price. My new to me truck has 109k miles and a trailer tow package, but other than that is a standard XL which was a "program truck" meaning all the maint was performed on schedule under the terms of the lease, giving me a little peace of mind. I paid $11,9k plus bought a $1k, 24 month extended warranty, just in case. I plan on using it to pull a TT to retire in full-time. Lots of people say their 6.4 returns horrible fuel mileage, but unfettered by a trailer mine is averaging in the low 20's - mostly highway, but it will hit mid 20's all highway, which suprised the heck out of me for a bone stock truck.
Has anyone here done (or are planning to do) the DPF and EGR delete? If so, what tuner did you use and what were the results as far as towing MPG, reliability, power, etc?

I have a 2010 F-350 DRW 6.4. Lots of power......but you not going to like the mileage. Our 5th Wheel is 16000# gross. Driving 62 to 65 mph yesterday coming home from AR we got 8 mpg (heavy wind). Truck has been pretty solid mechanically. At home i only do city driving and get 12 to 13 mpg.
I would to know what the 6.7 gets pulling a load.

I did perform the EGR & EGR Cooler delete on mine but I stay away from tuners, especially with a 6.0 liter engine. We also installed a coolant filter system.
These two sites have a wealth of info on 6.4 modifications.
Thanks for the links, azrving. However it looks like I am SOL as the EPA has cracked down on all the DPF/EGR tuners and they are now no longer available anywhere I look.
They have a 6 month Money back guarantee. Barry Sadler has set several world land-speed records in diesel trucks... HE KNOWS DIESEL! Take a look, you have nothing to lose.

We run the H&S Performance MiniMax DPF delete on our truck...It was to improve the mpg mostly...gained approx. 2-3mpg and a whole lot more power and runs cooler. We travel at 60-65mph and get 8-10mpg...If I slowed to 55mph I know we would do better...4.88 gears are great heavy tow gears but sacrifice fuel a little. Our rig is approx. 19,000lbs and 44 ft long toyhauler. Guess you have to pay to play...LOL.

Red,
His signature states that he has a 2008 Ford F450 Lariat. His is similar to ours except that we were lucky in finding a used F450 King Ranch model. Ours also has the 4:88 rear differential ratio. Back when I drove 18-wheelers, I had one truck equipped with the Cummins 335, a two-stick 4X4 transmission, and a 5:29 rear axle ratio. The trucks were owned by a company that headquartered in Greeley, Colorado and all their trucks for Shupe Brothers were equipped for mountain travel. That's how I came to want the 4:88 so that I could better handle mountain passes. Oh, and the folks with Shupe also were somehow linked to the Monfort truck line. Those trucks were equipped for speed, and many truckers referred to the inside lane of interstates as the Monfort lane.
More than once, while pulling up a long grade someone came on the CB and said that I couldn't make any money running empty. My answer was always, "Who's running empty?"

Red - we have the 2012 F450 6.7 engine, hwy towing usually 8-9 mpg, lucked out on our recent trip out of Sacramento to Arizona and got 11 MPG!! Whoo hoo, that was an improvement, but very little mountain terrain to deal with other than the passes out of Bakersfield area. Locally, not towing we get 13-15 mpg, around AZ we've been getting just over 15 mpg which again we're attributing to being mostly flat. Either that or the truck just likes the sunshine vs. the rain
Oh yeah, Dale's been using a Diesel fuel treatment regularly for 2 months and that seems to have improved our mileage about 1-2 MPG.
We're towing a DRV Mobile Suites, GCVR of 18,500, plus we have 1000 lbs of "art booth stuff" (weights, glass cases, canopy, display shelves, etc) in the bed / cab / cargo box on the roof of the truck) so even when we are running around town without towing, we have an extra 1K of weight in the truck that we only unload when we are actually participating in an art show.
Does that help?

Thanks Terry and Ruth. Sounds like the 6.7 gets a little better mileage but not near enough to make a trade. I''m about to add an "American Auxiliary Fuel Tank" to our truck, it should increase our range to 800 to 1200 miles.

Congratulations on your new truck, you're going to love it! We bought a 2011 F350 lariat about 2 months ago & love it! It rides so nice and we are getting about 19mpg around town. Which in NJ is a lot of stop-n-go traffic. We don't have our 5er yet but are optimistic it will get goodmileage with the 6.7 diesel. Good luck with it. We will be in Tampa for a day or two finalizing our choice also. Maybe we will run into each other.
