Leaving New England the end of December for Saint Petersburg and looking to be in Florida for three months. We need to be in St Petersburg for the month of January while we wait for the arrival of a new grandson, and I'm wondering if it will be an issue finding a place to stay. we have a 34 foot class A? I'm trying to avoid making a long term comitment to a specific site, we plan on traveling other areas of Florida as well, any suggestions on prefered RV parks, state parks would be appreciated.
This is our first time traveling to Florida with the RV

lack of reservations at this time of year might keep you out of some of the more affordable parks..............but there is alot of parks all around where your heading.......
I would suggest keeping Allstays.com on your phone or internet device for starters and using google earth to look over things prior to getting there.
I never make reservations while in Florida but I'm not picky about where I stay as long as the utilitys and space is decent.......if not I boondock it till I find something suitable.

baysailor; I feel for you Florida is a winter visitors paradise. My suggestion is the relatives should do some searching for a spot for you! You should be prepared to boondock (dry camp); have a generator for power; fresh water tank filled and the sparse use as not to fill the holding tanks more than once a week. Tampa has a big RV show in January if I remember from 2004. I hope you have a towed vehicle; you may have to stay 1/2 to 1 hr. away from St. Pete.

There are LOTS of RV parks and campgrounds in FL but at that time of year there are lots of snowbirds too! The state and county parks would be out because most have a maximum 14 day stay limit. I wouldn't try it without reservations or at least doing some homework. We use RVParkReviews.com a lot for our research.

It is possible to stay in Florida over their winter peak season without reservations... although it can be sometimes difficult to snag a last minute monthly spot exactly where you want to be if you want to avoid paying higher nightly fees. But, cancellations happen all the time as people's plans change, so it is possible if you're willing to be flexible and resourceful to seek out options.
One of the tricks with the state parks (which are almost always booked solid months in advance), is to constantly check ReserveAmerica.com for cancellations and snag them as they fit your plans.
