Any half timers out there? We began our adventure living in our 5th wheel, off the grid at 10,000' in the Utah mountains for 6 months. Had to leave because of the heavy snowfall and are back in the "old" home for the holidays. Has anyone else had trouble re-adjusting after being on the road? We were without TV, radio, phone and internet for 6 months; only went down for supplies once a week. Everything is now so overwhelming with noise and busyness (is that even a word?). I miss the peace of my mountaintop. I thought the hard part would be adjusting to life in the 5th wheel but it was easy. This change has left me terribly depressed. Kate

I think you already answered your question in your post. Maybe it is time for you to be more than half time and become fulltimer, I think you no longer appreciate the usual life of many of your neighbors. Therefore, "Hit the road Jack and don't you come back"........

Before we went full-time the hardest thing getting back to "the house" was remembering not to use my foot to flush.

Kate: Is it being on the road or the peacefulness/being away from it all? I was so envious to read of your adventure. If you adapted easily, of course, you are going to have adjustment period and you may or may not adjust. That is something we learned moving around because once you realize that there is something other than what you have experienced, it is hard to let it go. Are you planning to repeat doing the 6 months each year on the mountain top? If "busyness" isn't a word, you might substitute "chaos". I'm sorry you are depressed but I think this will bring you to explore your options and you'll figure it out. Sounds like a bad case of being homesick.

We will be returning to the mountain in 6 months, weather permitting. I am focusing on that. I think SnowGypsy hit the nail on the head. I am just homesick. I did not mention that previous to our going part time, my life was in the political field. I was constantly surrounded by noise, chaos, 24/7 phone calls and problems. Even though I am no longer in office, once I returned from the mountain I was bombarded with requests for help along with family and friends that wanted to reconnect. I am most definitely missing my peace and quiet. Thank you all for helping put it in perspective. Best cure for depression is to help someone else and to get busy. I will be helping at the local food bank over the holiday season and then it's planning for the next trip up the mountain. Great to have RV friends who understand ..Kate

Greetings, any photos or blog of your 6 months of peace and quiet you care to share?

Chris--I'd love to share but haven't quit figured out how to post any pictures. Terry tried to help me out, but I got lost in the instructions. Maybe I should try again. I've made a 10 minute video to show to a local group and of course we have many photo's. I did keep a journal and maybe I will try a blog if I can figure that one out. Retirement-nothing but time to try new things. Kate

Steve and Kate,
Even if you don't post photos on the forums, you can get free accounts with a number of sources like Photobucket, Picasa, and others. Then, all you would have to do is provide links in the body of the forum comments to direct interested folks to your photo account. If you want to check our link below you can see that I created different "folders" in the "Library" of our account.
You can direct folks to your full site, to just one "folder," or to specific photos.

Trying our link to photos from our 6 month boondocking adventure in Utah this summer. Hope it works, I am learning new things. Thank you Terry.
