So yesterday we are eating lunch outside and notice the water sputtering from the hot water heater along with dirt? red rusty looking. It stopped, we did dishes, washed a load of laundry and showered. All seemed fine, until I took a shower this morning and there was only half the hot water and the water heater had a steady drip. Any suggestions?? John was out of town today and couldn't deal with it:(
Thank you!!

First thing to check is the relief valve, they tend to start leaking first. It's easy to see if it's leaking there, it's just inside the outer door. If it is. Turn the heater off and let the water cool, then move the lever on the valve a couple of times. Many times you have to replace the valve, it's cheap and easy to do.
Let us know what you find.

you also want to check your water pressure.......if the water pressure is high it will cause the pressure relief valve to leak or blow off water........you should be using a water pressure regulator on your incoming water , some parks the water pressure is very high.
also like red said....test the relief valve.....if it is suspect they can be found at most hardware stores , Lowes , Home depot
