Last fall we tried listing our house for sale by owner. After no interest, we listed with a Realtor in the spring and had several showings and one low ball offer that we refused. Then after no interest for 6 weeks, we had a second showing from a couple that had told pure Realtor in July that they were very interested but wanted to get a VA loan pre-approved first. Second showing was middle of September with an offer immediately following. All the inspections and paperwork started and then the Government shut down started. Since the couple as using the VA and they had just sold a business and filed taxes late, as most business owners due through filing extensions, we were told that things would be held up since the IRS was shut down and the VA was on limited services. Then this week it all started to escalate, the bank was able to push the loan through the VA because taxes were at a final stage of processing, the couple got out of a lease on their luxury apartment, and now we are looking at closing next week with request to move out by the end of this month. What a whirlwind of up and down emotions and last minute activities!!! We may actually be able to retire and hit the road the end of this year as we have been planning and thinning out toward after all. Exciting and busy times!!!!!!

RicjandJanice, awesome news. We, too, had ups and downs with our home sale but it all came out in the end. It'll be stressful for a while when it all comes together, then you'll ask yourself why you didn't do it sooner!

That's great to hear Rick and Janice. When the smoke clears it will have been well worth it.

Thank you all for your support. Closing is set for 10/15 with new owners taking possession on 10/27. Can hardly wait to have this all over with so we can start winding things down with our jobs towards exiting the full time work force by the end of the year and hitting the road full time!
Stressful? Yes. Only the last minute rush to make everything happen in such short time.
Exciting? YES! In every way!
Worth doing? DEFINITELY YES!! We have planned and prayed the last 10 - 12 years for this.
Regrets? NONE, EVER!!

Congrats! When the wheels start to turn, it's a downhill slide! We were to close on 9/18 but are still waiting for all the paperwork to be completed. New closing date set for next Monday, 10/21. We have already moved out of house into our Aviator, but it would be nice to get rid of the overhead of the sticks 'n brick house.

Well its all done!! Actually found that the shorter the time between closing and moving the better. It may be extremely hard work but with having little time to maul over what to keep, we found ourselves only keeping what we felt would be needed and getting rid of everything else. Our "keep sakes" were turned into pictures and refreshed memories and then passed along or sent to auction without time to feel sad. Funny thing is, we actually got rid of a couple of items we meant to keep but they were cheap and easily replaced when needed so just became amusing rather than aggravating. Now that it is all over, we both feel so free of "stuff". Thank you all for your support, best wishes to all of you on your selling adventures and look forward to meeting you on the road one day soon.

"Bloom where you are planted", Rick & Janice - that was my theme song for 10 long years in Cleveland, OH... I didn't bloom so well but I tried!😄
It's awesome how it's coming out for you and you may find you'll replace some things along the wat but discard others. But you will be FREE!
