Can anyone recommend a heated water hose? I see where Gene and a few others had problems with the Pirit brand last year but I haven't seen where anyone has had a good experience. Are there any good ones out there?

Have used the pirit one for 2 years without problems. I only use it for a month in the spring and a month in the fall when in Canada. Usually the park water spigit or my pressure regulator freezes first. Have had the hose out in the single digits and water in it won't freeze. No problems yet.............

Make your own, cheaper and more reliable.....

Home made is certainly cheaper. Before the pirit I had a regular hose wrapped with heat tape and pipe insulation. It worked great but the reason I changed was the space it took up. It was a little unwieldly and as I moved weekly, was a pain to take out and restore. It also took up more room for the 10 months I didn't use it. Everyone has to make their own choice, but for me the pirit is worth the price just for convenience. If it gives me problems in the future, I may have to revisit my decision.

I have used heat tape...not wrapping it around the hose but running it strait up the hose and fastening it with electrical tape every 6".....then taking and sliding it inside pool noodles. When done using it I just take it out of the noodles and store it.......the noodles double for slide out guards or awning bumpers.also in side boxes for added padding or storing fishing poles.....and of course always come in handy in the water on a hot day!!!!
not to mention when the hose goes bad I just transfer the heat tape to the next one.....I use the same hose year round so there is no such thing as a summer or winter hose.....its not pretty during the summer but its made for good water not good looks........I seen those during the cold months ....a pretty frozen hose with a frustrated person holding it!!!!

Thanks Gene, Robert, and Mike. I appreciate the good advice.
I think they are probably all o.k, but wow they are super expensive. I have full time camped in winter up here in Albert's north and did fine with the tape and foam [ equal to mikes pool noodle,no pools up here] in very cold temps. Only had 1 problem at -35 but at -20 to -30 it was good. if it gets that cold though it would be a "nice" idea to go south......Deb

Pool noodles or plain old pipe insulation tubes work great with heat tape, and Mike's right about taking it off & storing it separate if you use electrical tape.

Newbie here with a question ... we bought the heated hose, but do we should do anything where the waterhose hooks to the RV or at the water spigit?

Grams, I would recommend you cover the water spigot. One idea is use an kitchen wastebasket or similar to cover the entire spigot assembly. I used to put a trouble light inside mine to keep it above freezing. If your water spigot on the RV is external you can use these to insulate.
