We're currently workamping at a COE campground - Battle Run Campground at Summersville Lake, WV. Because of the government shut down, it is closing early. The campers have to leave by tomorrow at 8:00, and we have to leave Thursday. I was wondering how many here are finding themselves making unplanned moves because of the shut down? BTW, this is not to be about the shut down - just about moving because of it.
It looks like we'll be heading south on Thursday. We only got the word late this afternoon, so we haven't really made sure we have a place to go yet. The park we planned to go to is near the Charlotte Speedway, but they have a big race the weekend after next, so we don't know for sure that we can get in, or what it will cost. If worst comes to worst, we may be heading to Florida this week rather than in a month. It's likely that the site we'll be going to there will be available a month early, so we could do that, but we really want to see our kids and some friends in NC before we head south. Just not sure what's going to happen yet.
Anyone else being affected by this?

We were in a COE campground at Carters Lake in GA on our way to RV Dreams Rally in Franklin. We had go leave today by 3:00 and are currently at the Walmart in Franklin because our site at the RV Resort is full until tomorrow. Just a little bump in the road as we try to get adjusted to our new lifestyle. It is all good....

Pierre,
We use Allstays website as a resource for boondocking as well. In fact last night we stayed in the parking lot of the Casino next to Adventureland in Iowa. I saw the entrance sign and thought of you.

We're currently volunteer interpretive hosting (ie. giving tours) at Cape Blanco Lighthouse in Oregon. The land and lighthouse are owned by BLM and the US Coast Guard, but the interpretive program we're part of is managed by the state parks under a lease from them. So far, they're saying the lighthouse and tours will stay open *crossing fingers*

Some friends had just arrived at a COE park for their first work camping job. Before they could even get settled in and begin their training, the park is closing (today) and they must vacate.

We got caught in the congressional boondoggle too. We'd just arrived at our campsite in Assateague National Seashore for a 4 night stay when everything shut down. The bad part was that nobody knew what was going on... the offices were closed, entry gate was unmanned, even the bathrooms were locked up! We finally found a camp host that advised us to go somewhere else because they could blockade the entrance at any time and we wouldn't be able to get out! Fortunately we got a site right up the street at the state park with no problem, except it cost a bit more. I called recreation.gov yesterday to ask about a refund for the 3 unused days and someone is supposed to call me back.

I was going to dry camp at Granite Flats near Truckee for 4 days, but my refrigerator wasn't running on gas, and then this idiocracy happened. So I canceled, got 1/2 my $$$ back, and went to Mound House NV, and had my frig looked at (loose ground wire, minimal charge). Virginia City was close, so here I am for a week... They gave me a good rate, and convinced me to stay for the outhouse races.

We were at Snake Creek Cove COE on Tenkiller Lake in Cookson, OK. What a great park. We were due to leave today but then Ranger came by on Tuesday and told us we would have to leave on Wednesday by 4. We were only going 10 miles over the dam to the other side of the lake to start a NOMADS volunteer project. So we left one day early and traveled all those 10 miles in one trip!

Phil and Rudee; One day we are going to meet-up and have them donuts and Joe! I expect I'll be here in TN. until Mid-Spring if not later. I really want to meet with the many who cheered me on since my health ordeal started. I felt all that energy when reading the posts which keeps me energized and the comforting words I hold so dear to my HEART! Pieere

Steve and I worked our first volunteer day here at Lk Mead NRA on Monday. Didn't make our second day due to shutdown. We are staying at the volunteer campground in the park. Gates are closed and rangers are turning people around. We have to check in each time we leave and return. Hopefully the shutdown won't last long and we won't have to move.

I guess I shouldn't mention this, I'm afraid of a run on campers to this lovely place We are staying in the Petersburg Campground on the GA side of J Strom Thurmond COE. It IS open, and there is hardly a soul here. They told us they 'found' funding to keep it open until at least the 19th. Our reservations are until the 23rd, so we'll see if we get to stay the whole time. Weather is beautiful, sites are wonderful!
