Fred and wife (you didn't mention her name!),
Let me be the first to welcome you to the site! I haven't been on here too long, but I can tell you, everyone is very nice and helpful!
We are practically neighbors (we are in Reading, PA) but my daughter recently moved to Pittsburgh! What a small world! The more you read on here, the more you will realize that the world gets smaller every day!
My hubby (Bill) and I are hoping to get out of here by next summer - very ambitious of us considering we just made this decision about 6 weeks ago! We have a lot of house to sort through and purge. I am trying to take it one area at a time. I did make an initial pass through the house and made a very general list of what I 100% want to keep, what I 100% want to get rid of and what is still in the "maybe" column. I have a feeling the actual doing rather than making my lists will take a LONG time and a lot of effort. But, it will be worth it in the end, must keep my eyes on the prize! I am sure there will be emotional times when deciding on the "maybe" stuff. One of the topics here on the forum talks about the emotional side of getting rid of stuff, you should read that, you will get plenty of perspectives - I know I did!

Fred and Elly,
Welcome to the RV Dreams forums. I imagine that you will find this to be one of the friendliest sites around, especially that are related to RV's and the RV lifestyle. Feel free to ask any questions as we all tend to learn from each other. And, this is a good source of knowledgeable folks.

Fred,
Getting rid of stuff! We decided this year to pull the trigger, we had plans to do it sometime, but the time was right. I am 51 and was going to continue to work - professional software sales in a 3 state area living and working from our fifth wheel. In May we started slowly selling items as soon as we put the house on the market. June 1, full price offer with a close date of July 15. Then June 2, I had an accident - fell only 4 feet from ladder while helping waxing someones RV. (we started a blog at www.whereRVtoday.com ) I was out completely out of commission..... My spouse was able to pull off selling, giving, donating 27 years worth of stuff in a 3500 sq ft home in 45 days. No we did not get $$$ for all our furniture, we gave a lot to friends, friends kids, some to our kids, etc.... we sold some on craigs list, sold some on a local facebook account someone setup to sell local stuff, we had 1 garage sale for 2 days and only made $300 - not really worth our time, but helped get rid of stuff.
The hardest part was getting rid of gifts from family, collectables, pictures, and we still have 5 boxes of pictures that we are taking pictures of and then throwing away the orginal - gotta go digital. Yes we even threw away our orginal wedding album after we had digital pictures. We threw away diplomas, awards, things i was going to finish, and on and on. The best and worst of what we did was use the help of friends and family. They showed up, and knew we had a deadline - so from a different room they would shout "what do you want to do with the xxxxx?" Our answer would have to be one of three choices: trash, give away, camper! We did it. We sold, we moved in camper and we are now on the road. This Monday we start our first workamping gig - for 3 months we are located at James Island County Park in Charleston, SC. While it may be a while until I am back to work, my wife will do the workamping duties while I continue to heal. Come see us!
