Thanks Mark. I believe I'll just write Independence Pass down and draw a line though it. Our first experience with the edge was headed west out of Estes Park CO going to Rocky Mountain NP. Got a line in that one too.

The post about Donner Pass got me to thinking. How does Donner Pass compare to Monarch or Molas in CO? I think Monarch is easier to drive but is a little longer.
Is there any kind of directory/publication for the "drive-ability" of mountain passes? I'll be honest, I'm from Texas and the wife and I don't like the EDGE.
Thanks for the link. Just checked it out, looks like what I need.
Thanks Forest.

If you don't like the "edge" stay away from Independence Pass between Aspen and Twin Lakes in Colorado. DW still hasn't forgiven me for that one. On her terror scale it is a ten. There are places where there isn't enough room for an outside white line. Even Cabbage is only a hill in comparison. Independence Pass is a "must do" or "must not do" depending on your thrill seeking quotient. No large vehicles are allowed on the pass.
Considering "the edge". Passes like Donner and the Grapevine don't really have an edge. The Grapevine is eight lanes wide and runs through a valley so even the short periods where there is an edge you have a broad choice of lanes and distance from the edge. Semis usually run the outside lane. Most interstate passes are so wide "the edge" is not the concern that it is on smaller roads. My wife keeps me abundantly aware of the edge. Now I just tell her to go to the sleeper and watch TV until we are down.

We've use Mountain Pass Directory and there is also an All Stays Truck and Travel app we've downloaded to our phones. It includes info on steep grades, low clearances, etc.

Ruth, we can't find a travel app by that name that lists mountain grades for our our iPhones?
Thanks,
Sherry

The folks up in Tahoe warned me about the Kingsbury grade; one woman said her RV was smoking. I haven't tried it, and won't.
