started out this morning at 9:12 out of campground (Buffalo,Idaho Island park) heading toward Mesa falls (hwy 47) to Grassy lake road. The First 45 minutes paved road, then gravel not bad but 3/4 to 1 inch gravel semi pack manage 20 mph for the first 3 miles, then turn it to more hard pack and a nice gravel road , mange about 30 mph for next 7 miles , all This so far 25 feet wide road and to wash board. The next 8 miles turn to lane with some pull out may 10 to 14 feet and with a lot more wash board, but still not bad manage any where from 2 to 10 mph, forgot there are some pretty nasty dips, pretty rough in F 350. then was sign saying entering the John D Rockefeller park way road is still single lane but very nice gravel road all to main hwy . Log 88.5 miles from campground in Island park to main hwy to about 3 half hrs, but it very enjoy drive, could be done Easily in 2 wheel drive Vehicle with Minimal ground clearance.
so now back campground we Decided to go Yellowstone route. just happen to turn out at 100.5 miles Back to campground.took us. Another 3 hrs to complete, with Picnic. It was all Beautiful. One of life many blessing.

Heck of a road trip. I'm not familiar at all with the area - is the gravel road the only way in or did it cut a lot of miles off the trip as opposed to staying on the pavement?

It is the only road that goes across south of Yellowstone and above Grand Teton. It was made back when they Constructed the Jackson lake dam in Teton. Ashton at that time was the nearest railroad.

The Mesa falls are beautiful, I believe its the Henry fork river that run through. Will be fishing above and below the falls at the end of the month.

Sound like a road for our hopefully soon to own Four Wheel Drive Tiger Motorhome.....I would be a little hesitant to bring the 45' Motorhome down that road..

No way, no how,I would'nt do anything bigger than a pickup, there is some pretty steep climbs, maybe 8 to 9 % On hard pack dirt.
we did see one guy pull a camper mount on pickup bed box though may late 70 model, and another pulling 15 foot fishing boat.

Sorry, thanks, for education Genecop did little research on tiger motor home I was thinking a lot bigger, that would work.
