i'm new here and I think I may have posted this somewhere else on here = so sorry in advance!
I am a new owner/operator of 2006 Hitchhiker 5th, and I am about to become a fulltime RV'er end of august - unfortunately I may have picked the wrong time to embark {last week of august/first week of September} tho my intent is to boondock for those first couple of weeks = but exactly where in BC is boondocking available (?) that is not way up north or on the island ?? I may have erroneously joined certain RV clubs believing I was going to 'acquire' that vital info...but its proving to be more a rabbit hole! my former home-base was in the okanagon, yet I am really interested in bugging out for more seclusion.
my plan is to eventually boondock down south for winter - but I am taking the next 2/3 months to refurbish my HH, and get comfortable & acquainted with my rig; so I would appreciate staying somewhere close to good shopping for RV's {within an hour/2 drive} and I am not apposed to setting up in a park then...when the pricey season has passed.
ANY other canucks on here(?) that are not dated = back 2/5/7yrs(?)
would really appreciate the insight!

Fre2B,
Welcome to the forum. We have lots of Canadians go thru our park here in Washington but I can't help you with boondocking in Canada, sorry.
However, an idea you might want to consider is searching for a part time workamping job in an RV Park for a couple of months to allow you time to refurbish your HH, get comfortable and acquainted with it at little or no living costs THEN head South to boondocking.
Just food for thought.

Check out Thurston Meadows - it is a Forest Rec Site. There is a charge $13 per night and an onsite camphost, you would be safe and close to town. Before Thurston on the same road is Tamihi (also $13. per night) but ATVers on the weekend. Riverside is past Thurston and when we checked it last it was closed. These rec sites are open year round. We usually go to Chehalis River Rec Site but it is not close to any town (also $13 per night). Go to BC Recreation Sites and Trails and click onto Chilliwack. We have gone to most of the sites and these are the only ones that are somewhat close to town and some of them close after our Thanksgiving weekend. We have checked out any logging road that we thought might work but would not want to be there on the weekends - party city. I think it would worth the $13 just to know your rig will be safe when you go back and forth into town. It is really hard to find anything close to town, free and feel safe.
You might want to check out Boondockers Welcome. I think there some places in Chilliwack and if it works for you and for them, you maybe able to stay there until you are ready to head south.
If you want, feel free to private message me, always glad to help out.
Best of luck
Melissa

Welcome to the forum. We are from the Vancouver, B.C. area and have been full timing since October 2013. We boondocked all last summer in the Cariboo and have just returned to the lower mainland after 5 weeks in the Kootenays. Also know of some sights in the lower mainland that might be a good alternative. Would be glad to share some spots with you, we realize your frustration, as there is not a lot of boondocking info out there for Canada. We scour and search as we don't like the campground alternatives. So ask away, would love to share our finds.

Jacque,
I welcomed you via "Private Message" and I totally missed that part of your comments about boondocking, even though you mentioned "bugging out." After reading these answers this evening, I remembered that the subject of Canadian boondocking had come up before. So, I went and found a thread where it is discussed. By the way, using the "Search" function in the blue bar at the top of the forum categories, you can type in short search words to get answers if they have been discussed before. (I say "short search words" because the nature of a search function is to find ALL of those words in the search phrase. One or two words works better than 3 or 4 or more. I used "Canada boondocking" as my search phrase.)
thank you sherry = tho my current motto is "dolce far niente" ...so at this time i'm not really interested in any more work!
Also there is only a 6 month window that canucks can be fully covered in the US - and my plan is to head for the warmer sunny states starting in November.
The RV park that I was first interested in setting up at here strongly recommended the Escapees club {I've looked into a few} And after perusing their site I was impressed with what they offered = just forgot to research thoroughly since everything I am really interested in was states offered and NOt in Canada.
I have to stop "reading/researching" as now I have become info-overloaded, and everything is becoming a bit convoluted!
This is why I am here - I decided to just stop and "ask" for better directions! Out of all the forums/sites/clubs I like this one as it does not tend to get lost in rants; most actually answer the original queries; and there are definitely more people here I relate to...why now I am hoping to find other bc canucks that hopefully will share the necessary info = which brings me to you Melissa - i thank you and i am genuinely interested in staying/boondocking between Hope and Chilliwak (sept-nov?) looking for something peaceful/serene...easy to get in and out of since i will be seriously shopping/tweaking my RV home preparing so i will be ready for a winter of boondocking down south {hence the need for some metropolis nearby...and the necessities of replenishing water/propane/etc.}
And thank you Terry = I did read that thread yesterday...another reason I like your site - I did exactly what you suggested {i'm a huge fan of google/google maps} so I really value and appreciate the concept of a search bar! it's just that at too many other sites I was getting lost in "archives"...tho some still made for good reading!
thanx everyone for the friendly welcome - I must admit I do feel akin to home here!
