I called direct tv yesterday to have the local channels reset from my home base to my present location (Custer,SD). I've done this several times before, their response was no can do, against FCC regulations.
I explained that I have done this many times before, still no can do.
My question is, does anyone else make these changes, and if so have you had any problems?
To clarify, before I would call direct tv tech and tell them where I was located and request the local channel line up. Of course if I was out of a certain viewing area then it would not be possible. If your in a certain marketing area then should be no problem.
Any suggestions, comments?

we do the same thing with Dish and have not had an issue with it ..... yet. I have no info to help you with Direct TV but if their customer service is anything like Dish I would call them back and try it again with a different representative and not mention my previous call.

Yea, they are technically not supposed to do that per FCC (government) rules. However, sometimes they will do it for whatever reason.
As Phil said, call back and try another CSR and see what happens.
Now, I just pass this along:There is a box, costs about $50 – called an AM-21 which will allow you to receive the off-air (not satellite) signal of the local stations and integrate those completely in the on-screen guide / channel line-up on your Direct TV DVR.You use an outside TV just like we’ve used since the 1950’s plugged into this box.A standard RV TV antenna works fine. This is an off-air HD digital TV station tuner just like is in a TV set only it integrates seamlessly with the DVR.However, when you move you do have to tell the DVR what zip code you are in so it can download the guide information for those specific local stations. There are some setup things in the user menu you have to do in the DVR but it’s not that complicated once you learn how.
We’ve used this for a long long time.Works fine when you are in range of the local stations signal.

Jim we have the same problem with D TV, and as Bill & Phil stated, just hang up and call back. We are just outside of Rapid City and getting local stations.
