Has anyone taken the driving test in TX? I am considering becoming a Texan and have a 41-ft MH. I would have to take the driving test. Does anyone have any experience with this?
Thank you.

Well, I'm not a resident of Texas, but I do have some pretty good "Google-fu" skills, so I found this little document for you. Hopefully, it will give you some answers.
Which leads to the question... what other states require a driving test for a MH/RV when establishing a new domicile? I thought it was only license and registration paperwork!

Hi Cheryl:
I found a good website which tells which states require driving tests for large vehicles.

The article was dated three years ago. I do know that the special license rules have been changed since then, but they aren't much different from the previous ones. The requirement is based on weight (over 26,001). There is no mention of air brakes as a criteria.
One thing that was not made clear is that to register any vehicle in Texas you must show proof of vehicle insurance. And, if one is going to get a special license plate, then extra paperwork will be required.
Theoretically, you would not be allowed to drive the MH to the testing place without already having a Class B CDL. Someone with one would need to drive it there. I don't know if this is enforced or not.

Thanks, Rick.
I wasn't sure how up to date that link was, so I'm really glad you chimed in to set the record straight. The best I figured that I could provide would be some basics.

Thank you everyone. I have decided to become a Wisconsinite. It's much less complicated plus I have family there.
