My brain is fried from reading so many websites regarding water filtration units so I thought I'd ask the experts here for their opinion on the matter. I searched the archives here but many of the topics are a few years old now. I am looking for the best way to get the best quality water in the TT. I know some of you are using RO systems but I don't want to use demineralized water due to the health risks. Whatever system I get HAS to remove fluoride and heavy metals. I'd prefer a whole house system as opposed to just a drinking water system. At this point I'm thinking a woven filter to take out the sediment, a kdf filter to remove arsenic, heavy metals, bacteria, iron, fungus etc, and a bone char filter to cut down the fluoride. Does this sound feasible?
Another question is where to mount the whole thing. Inside before the holding tank? Outside? Do you have photos you could share of your water filtering setups? Thanks!

RO systems are not practical for whole house in the RV...RO is usually used for single drinking water tap only....recovery of cleaned water will not keep up with shower and general demands in an RV. I am probably going to go with a two or three stage system which is pretty much what you are talking about. Depending on your unit and demands location is custom and specific to each situation.

Water filtration is not a subject that changes much, so information a few years old is still quite valid. I recommend going to http://www.rvwaterfilterstore.com/ and reading through their Information articles. We have a two canister system in our water bay, where it fits out of sight, and a filter under the sink that came with our RV. We had a small RO system that hooked to the kitchen faucet for occasional use, but had to replace the faucet and could not find a replacement that was compatible so the RO system is useless. In a few areas we buy gallons of RO water for 20 to 25 cents each, but I think about putting in an undersink RO unit.

I can only speak for myself but, it may also apply here. I contacted the RV Water Filter Store explaining my setup and common RVing situations. Richard Dahl responded quite rapidly with his suggestions for a system. I, for one, really appreciate the intimate customer service and prompt response.
Ultimately I ordered a "Dual Jumbo SED5 & KDF-GACBB" that sits in a transit box under one of my slide-outs to keep it out of the sun. The high flow filters are great and do not impede the water flow to the rig. The filters I ordered are able to be cleaned and should last a long, long time. (I also "deleted" the internal filter on my rig and run with the filter canister "empty".)
I have "stainless quick connects" on everything (and ordered some custom "short" hoses from them, too) making setup very rapid and provides the ability store everything in the same container in my basement when mobile or Boondocking. My system goes from a "Watts X65B" to the jumbo filters, to an "On The Go" water softener, to the fresh water inlet. When I prep for Boondocking, I use the same setup to fill the fresh water tank.
For times when I am out in the boonies for an extended stay, I augment the system with two five-gallon water jugs that I bought from Wally World filled using the same setup.
Hope this helps. It works for me.

Same here as zeosix and bjoyce....contacted Richard at the RVwaterfilterstore.com and got all the advise and components...went with a triple jumbo as I added an iron filter in between the sediment and carbon...
Echoing the praise for RV Filter Water Store... our supplier as well. We have a dual canister system from them that is hooked up at the water intake that everything goes through. And then we also have New Wave 10-stage single canister drinking water filter undercounter.

Thanks for all the replies, it looks like I'll be talking to the RVwaterfilter folks in the near future. And Les, thanks for the pics. I can only dream of having that much space to install anything in my 20' TT. LOL
