So... we overheated our engine last week, and have been hauled to a diesel shop in Billings, MT. The shop here lets us live onsite while they repair our engine (which is currently out of the bus), and we are comfortable with water, power and WiFi. We'll soon however need to pump out our waste tanks. We're in ultra conservation mode, but it all still will eventually add up before our engine is rebuilt.
The shop put us in touch with an industrial pumping service, that quoted us $200 to come pump out our appx 130 gallons of waste tanks. That seems high, but if it's the only option.. well, that's still cheaper than getting a motel for a week.
Any hints/tips on locating a pump out service more geared toward non-industrial needs? What keywords would one use to locate them? Call around to camping stores and RV Parks for referrals?
Thanks!

Try local companies that pump out septic tanks for homes, they may be able to to provide this service for your RV, worth a few calls. Don't connect directly to your sewer line, dump slowly into large tub and have them suck out of tub a direct connection could damage tank.

check with the shop if there is a possibility you could dump into there waste system using a macerator pump and 5/8 garden hose....Via toilet in restroom or an access port...if its a commercial bathroom there will be a 3 inch access hub on the wall toilet side...
a macerator pump and garden hose will cost around the same money as your saying one dump will cost....or as Gene said a blue boy and a couple trips to a dump station

Cherie, maybe call some local RV parks for suggestions? Normally park offices have a list of local repair and services. Just a thought and wishing you the best on your engine repair.

Mike has the right idea... with spending the $$$$ you are at that garage... They should have no issues with it. I bought 1 of those pumps and hoses to run from our 5ver to sewer line and it works great. runs on 12v

Unfortunately, there is not a sewer access point or toilet within about 500 feet of us.. that would be a lot of hose to have to purchase. And given all the engine rebuild decisions and research we're up against, procuring & installed a macerater system is beyond our scope of ability this week :)

Chris and Cherie....
Have you thought about calling a porta potty company........they might be a little cheaper and there trucks are equipped for small tanks and they are normally driving around once or twice a week to service there outhouses ....just a thought?

Score.. found a construction site supplier who does this for just $44. That's much more reasonable, and means I can use more than a cup of water to wash the dishes.
