Help needed! My hot water heater is not working up to par. I get slightly warm water but no where near hot. Just not sure what to look for or how to proceed. Sure hope the whole unit does not need replacingĀ
Here is what I have;
Atwood 6 gallon mfg 5/2006
6 gallon capacity electric/gas fired
8,000 BTU
Model GC6AA-10E
Any suggestions appreciatedĀ

Are you just using after winter? If so make sure BY Pass valves are in correct posistion.

If you have an outside shower, make sure the faucet knobs are turned off and not just the button the shower head. This will cause the hot and cold to mix and you end up luke warm.
Phil
ps: same goes for the inside shower.

It sounds like a bypass problem where cold is mixing with the hot.
Another check would be the temperature setting of the unit, maybe it got turned down somehow.
Does the heater have both a gas and electric ? is it hotter on one or the other ?

Gene; Per your suggestion I did check the bypass and it is set correctly.
Phil; I will check both showers and run it through it's paces and see.

Hmmm not even sure if or where the tstat is located. Will investigate that as well. Any suggestions where to look other that the obvious exterior service area?
Thanks All!!!

Exterior service area......open it , there will be a square looking box in the center area of the heater facing you in the center is a red or white dial with markings on it set the arrow in the middle and then move it about a 1/4 inch more that should be about 115 degrees
