we are planing to buy a used motorhome. Some of the older models are having surprisingly low milage done.I have been told, that on all old modells the odometer goes only up to 100 000 miles and than restarts.
Any idea if this could be true? And if,how can I find out on what models/year they stoped doing this?
regards

Anna,
Even the old models may restart at 100,000. It depends on how many digits the odometer is equipped with or programmed with. If you are shopping for an older RV ask to see the service records or service log. Thumb through them and watch the dates and noted mileage....if you see a recent date with lower mileage noted than a record with an older date, chances are the odometer has restarted.
Also pay attention to the brake pedal and gas pedal....the rubber pads will show a lot of wear , get thin and may have a hole worn in it. The more the wear the more miles driven.
All that being said, it's not unusual for older motorhomes to have low miles. A lot of RV'ers travel short distances for the weekend and may not take long trips. I've seen motorhomes from the 70's with less than 50,000 miles on the odometer. Each had documentation to prove the mileage was accurate.

all units post 1972 will og up to 900,000 before flipping when they do the 6th digit will roll out.........a simple look at the vehicles title and inspection history will verify its milage
unless your looking at a pre 1970 unit I would doubt the odometer is flipped........or even close a motorhome with that kind of milage would be in total disrepair or would have had it drive train changed out....
not to mention it would have been driven coast to coast non-stop for years to accumulate that kind of mileage!!!!

thanks for that, this will help. Yes,we are looking for an older RV as the kids are not leaving the nest for another 3-5 years. Than we can hit the road permanently. For now an older one will do.
