So we have four big dogs, and I never leave home without a supply of poop bags. I want to be known as a good and responsible pet owner.
Met some people walking their two dogs past our site last night. I watched both of their dogs poop in the mulch and then he proceeded to cover it up with his foot, burying it in the mulch.
I asked if he needed a bag and got "nah, we dont do that".
"I see. So you are the ones that ruin things for the responsible pet owners..."
He laughed. I didn't.
Now, Shane is not a fan of the poop bag, but he walks the big dogs at 3:30 am, and sends me a text with the location of the gifts the left for me. When I get up at 5 and walk the little dogs, I scour out the earlier leavings and dispose of them. So I can relate to someone who can't quite follow the rules, but at least he lets me know the whereabouts and I take care of it before the rest of the campers are up and know what happened.

I have posted before......I pick up the happy campers poop and bring it to there site to deliver it.....and always tell them they dropped something while walking there dog!!
its so easy to pick up and dispose of , they make so many different contraptions now-days to do it.....(waiting on the IROBOT pooper scooper).....
I keep a plastic coffee can with the lid available to park the deposits during my stay and place them in a dumpster upon leaving...so many places have dog parks now , they even supply bags and receptacles yet there are those that refuse to do it..
I have been to a park up here thate the disposal unit for "Doggy Waste" makes methane gas to run the parks lites in the walking areas at nite!!!
Always remember that Karma prevails.........to the one who refuses to clean up after his pet , may you pick up after someone else s with your foot and carry it into your home or car!!!!.......only then will you realize how easy a plastic bag would have been and why!!!!.....LOL

This is the same guy that was walking his dogs when my 100 lb GSD puppy got away from me and ran straight to him..........his little dogs flipped out, Odin just stood there, although he had all of his back hair up but his tail was wagging..........I said "dont panic, he's a pup" and called him back to me. I wont let that happen again, but normally the GSD's will run to the Beetle and sit, waiting for their ride to work............that was an oops on my part..........
I walked out last night to apologize and let them know that Odin is a pup, a very socialized friendly pup, but, he is a GSD and everyone seems to think they are "attack dogs" or "police dogs".
Profiling!!!!
And furthermore, I couldnt hide a pile of GSD poop in mulch if I tried.

It's naptime here in the melt shop office.....but here are my two larger babies. Dog on left is Storm, she is probably 80 pounds. Flat out snoring dog is Odin, Storm's pup, he is a year old and about 105 pounds.

lol. He's not a poop-picker-upper guy, my fiance, plus he is walking dogs between 3-4 am in the dark when he isnt awake. So yeah, he texts location and I take care of it. It works for us. At least we dont act like the piles arent there.
Its our first full weekend as full timers..........and it's Memorial Day weekend............by the time we get home from work today the entire place will be filled to capacity.
Ive already noticed the people across the way dont leash their dogs, and dont pick up after them.......and the neighbors flip cigarette butts all over the joint..........I may be a little anal retentive to deal with these rule breakers!! Scrappy. Campground Nazi. lol

A veteran of more than a few of those early a.m. walks, I can attest to the difficulty of locating the gifts my little Pom leaves. I sometimes have to go back after daylight comes, to pick up. Just as long as the doody get taken care of. Pat K

Scrappy, Trying to decide where you are but that park sounds awful because people are disrespecting others so much! Glad you have a system worked out but I'm with Racerguy that a flashlight would solve the problem. There are other early walkers out there including me in my robe and jamies.

you would think if the dog has to poop he has to stop and squat........shouldnt be to hard to find it , it should land straight down and a flashlight and a good nose will lead right to it!!!
Cost me 6 bucks for a poop bag holder with a lite built in....even came with 100 poop bags and a small D-ring to connect it to the leash.
There is no Respectful reason for not picking up behind your pet.
Bet if the RV park said the only available space was the one full of dog poop they wouldnt take it!!!!!!!!

Everyone is pretty good, the park is now full of Memorial Day campers.
Well, and then our neighbors, who we think are in a FEMA trailer, flushed their toilet and it all ran out the bottom of the trailer. *gag* They are moving today.
Guy across the way rolled in with a whole truckload of his own firewood. Now, that's illegal in Georgia I do believe.
As new campers, we see everything that everyone is doing wrong. Not sure if you become callous to these things, or if you turn into a snitch, or like Shane wants to do, confront people about it.
I mean really, how hard is it to follow the rules? There aren't many....

Scrappy, since you are new, it might be prudent to sit back a while and see what the campground etiquette is in a few places before deciding how to proceed. Some people have manners and some are crude. That is just the nature of the beast. I don't care much for a non-pooper scooper either but, does it make much sense to get worked up about something you can't change?

Right, we will just observe, if it is a safety issue or a health issue, (like the neighbors black water running into the rocks...) we will say something.
We did just get a compliment from the owner of the campground. She said "Your dogs are so good, honestly, I didn't even realize you guys had dogs!" That was good to hear. There have been dogs barking and growling and loose dogs and fighting dogs all over this morning. The rules state all dogs on 6' leashes, but it doesn't say "you have to hold the other end" because there are leashed dogs running loose all over......crazy.

I would just take out my phone and videotape them or take a pic of them leaving their poop and show it to the owner. I mean come on. Pick up after your animals. One time we ran out of bags and my husband stayed with the dog and poop while I ran back to our site to get a bag to pick it up.

Knowing our luck we had said what Scrappy said then the owner of the dog would have turned us in and we would have got the fine. That did happen to us at our old apartment complex. We politely offered a bag to someone and they said no thank you and just left the deposit sitting there. The next day we had note on our door for a fine of $75 for not picking up after our dog. It was our word against theirs. So we had to pay it. So that's why I say get your phone and take a pic or video. Proof.

What really miffed me was the dog park, I guess people think that is just a large bathroom. No one cleans up after their dogs there. That sucks.
We got many many compliments on the behavior of our four dogs this weekend. There was a "cut through" path right next to our site so all of the office/shower/bathroom/laundry foot traffic had to pass within feet of our site. Not once did our dogs jump, bark, growl, or really even pay much attention. People are really impressed that the German Shepherds completely ignore strangers standing over the fence looking at them. They will not bark unless given the command to bark. It's a handy thing.
And now, we have survived 9 days of full-timing, including one packed holiday weekend. yay.

I shouldn't admit this because you'll probably all hate me from this day forward, but I'm not a dog lover.
I have been attacked twice in my life by dogs and it makes you kind of scared of them for the rest of your life. So reading your posts is scaring me because I don't want to spend the rest of my life being afraid of going for a walk for fear of stepping in poop or getting attacked by loose dogs! Yesterday I was at our RV cleaning and the neighbors dog wouldn't stop barking. Uggghhh. Is that what I have to look forward to now?

HHHmmmmm......Very politely let the neighbor know the barking dog is an issue......if that doesnt curb it right away , let the office know....normally that will solve it!!......... I am A dog owner (Actually she owns me!!)you should not have to deal with my pet in any way without asking.
Me and the dog Treat the world with a leave no trace attitude........we try to leave nothing behind that alters the beauty that we found when we came.......we would ask you to follow are footprints but there are none....just the spirit speaking in the wind and mother Nature to guide you!!!

I didn't mean to paint an ugly picture. Not all dog owners are irresponsible. Just a few that make the rest look bad. Tell the office about the barking dog. When we leave for the day, the dogs wear bark collars. Three barks and they get beeped, one more and they get buzzed.
We don't let people run up to our dogs, nor do we let our dogs run up to people. But having four dogs puts us under the microscope so we demand best behavior. When we are away from here they can be idiots. lol.
Report the barking dog, I would. No one should have their camping adventure ruined by anothers thoughtlessness.

Just because many of us are animal lovers we don't hate you. You have a right to be just how you are. Mike is right to suggest how to handle the barking dog.
We have an 11 month old pup who we thought was fine to leave behind while we went to town shopping. Yesterday a kind fellow host told us our dog barks the whole time we're gone. We were so glad they told us. Our pup had been left in a pen before but we felt she was well trained and could stay out. WRONG. She was in the pen for about 4 hours today and quiet.
Most pet owners are responsible and considerate, just like people or RVers. We get as frustrated as you at those who are not considerate but we know they exist in every walk of life.

I think the worst pet I ran into in my travels was a ****atoo bird.......when the guy left during the day it would screech all day....this went on for 4 days until the park sent him on his way!!

We have only been on the road for a short few months but so far I'm happy to say that almost all of the people we see with dogs have picked up after them. BUt we do see some laying around that didn't get picked up.We have a bag holder that connects to the lead so (I) don't forget the bags when I leave LOL!! Diane does most of the dog walking at poop time and I can't count the times I have seen her pick up other animals poop.Now that is a little over the top for me,,, I'm not going that far.

Thanks for starting this thread. We are former dog owners, but choose not to have one in our RV. After three years of fulltiming, I would guess at least 90% or more RVers have dogs. Most of them are very good, but unfortunately its the few bad ones that leave a lasting impression. We are camphosts in the summer in Wisconsin, and I have been bit by one dog and frequently have to tell people to leash their dogs. Like I said, the majority are great, but the few bad ones make all of them look bad. Our campground is small and we can see all sites from our spot. For that reason, I think most of them pick up after their dogs. No place to really hide the evidence. And, don't even get me started on the barking!
