After 2 years of dreaming, researching and hesitating.. we finally found the motorhome we simply could not walk away from... WE BOUGHT it! We have 1 year now before we can full time. Anyway the question is .... what is a good insurance company to insure the beast we bought...

Rebecca,
While I don't have the immediate answer to your question, you may want to check with an insurance broker, one that deals with numerous insurance companies to get your answers. Whomever you check with, whether they be a broker or an individual company, be sure and inform them that you will be full-timers. There are some insurance companies that refuse to insure RV's for full-timers.
Howard and Linda (and some others) have used Miller Insurance out of Oregon. Here is Howard and Linda's RV Insurance Page, which has a link to Miller's.
Also, consider Good Sam because I think they have gone to being a broker for insurance companies as well. While some have touted GMAC as a good company, when I checked with them, they were about double the cost as all the other companies for our rig. (Truck and fifth wheel)
Good luck with the research and planning, and congratulations on the purchase of the RV.

Just got insurance on a 2012 Journey from Good Sam thru GMAC. When combined with our 2 vehicles I felt the cost was good. The policy has full replacement value for 5 years. By it's self the MH ins. was around $1100 a year. With our 04 Subaru and 08 Dakota added the whole policy was $1440, the MH price dropped to around $750 with the other veh's added to it.

We went with Progressive through Poliseek. They specialize in finding the best policies for RVers.

I had our coach insured through Safeco. Had not checked with Progressive at that time but now have the TT and destination trailer insured through Progressive.

Over on another forum where I participate, one of the members is telling how he's getting really poor service from GMAC. Apparently, they keep sending out adjusters that deal with automobiles to look at and evaluate the damage to his roof on the RV. The latest "adjuster" to look at it said that they should be able to fix the roof with a $1000.
His conversations with 2 or 3 different places that actually repair the roofs say that $1000 is nowhere near enough to cover the costs.
This is not my own personal observations and who knows how truthful the poster on the other forum is with respect to his problems, but it is something to consider and do some research on.

I've had GMAC insurance since 2004 continuous, never had a problem with claims. An $1800 awning replaced from hurricane wind damage, two windshields and never a rate increase from it. PIEERE
I have liability and Comprehensive and the rate is good.

We had Progressive during our pre-fulltime Rving and then a couple years of fulltiming. The one claim was handled well, which was pre-fulltime. One day we got a notice we were not eligible for their lowest rates and would be getting an increase. After some investigation it turned out they had retroactively decided we needed a credit card older than 25 years, a new requirement to get their lowest rates. We couldn't fix this new requirement without a time machine, so we were a bit irritated. We called our broker, Farm and City, http://www.fcisinsurance.com/rv-advantage.asp , and they said this was a tactic ("scam" in my mind) Progressive was using to raise rates on many existing customers. Farm and City moved us to Allied (National Interstate), the rate was better, and we have been with them for many years. My view is don't focus on the insurance company, get a broker that understands RVs that will help you change insurance if your insurance company goes wacky.
